The Long Walk, June 29-July 4, 1968
This small booklet entitled 'The Long Walk' is an overview and compilation of speeches, newspaper articles and personal accounts of the centennial celebration of the first 'Long Walk'. Over 160 Navajos participated in the historical reenactment to commemorate and pay respect to their ancestors who, in 1868, were forcibly removed from their homeland in Arizona (near Window Rock) and relocated to Fort Sumner and the Bosque Redondo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. The documents gathered giving an overview of the historical "Long Walk" and the contemporary connection of Navajos to their past, as well as to their hopes and aspirations for the future of the Navajo culture and people. Booklet printed to each renactment participation. Booklet loaned to Cline Library for digitization, returned to donor. Text written by Martin Link. Illustration on cover done by Charles Chee Long.
