AbstractIn this paper I will discuss the problem of evaluating dynamic properties of the procedural rules that govern science. I will propose a novel framework for evaluating dynamic properties of such rules. This framework is based upon an analogy from New Institutional Economics. I will argue that the concept of 'adaptive efficiency', as it has been developed by Douglass North, solves a problem in economics that is analogous to the problem of evaluating dynamic properties of the procedural rules that govern science. I will propose to apply the main ideas underlying this concept to Chrysostomos Mantzavinos's theory of Explanatory Games. Based on these ideas, I will develop the concept of 'explanatory efficiency'. This concept is meant to provide the means to evaluate the dynamic properties of Explanatory Games. I will argue that the proposed analogy also motivates more general applications of New Institutional Economics to traditional problems of philosophy of science.

Obserwowany wzrost znaczenia wymogów zrównoważonego rozwoju w otoczeniu przedsiębiorstw wpływa na warunki ich dalszego funkcjonowania. Zmiany te wpływają także na dostępność podmiotów gospodarczych do źródeł finansowania, zarówno w postaci kapitału właścicielskiego (udziałowego) jak i dłużnego. W opracowaniu sformułowano następującą hipotezę: niewypełnienie wymogów zrównoważonego rozwoju przez przedsiębiorstwo istotnie ogranicza możliwości w zakresie pozyskania finansowania, zarówno o charakterze udziałowym jak i dłużnym. Po przeprowadzeniu analizy stwierdzono, że postawiona teza została potwierdzona. Przedsiębiorstwa niespełniające wymogów zrównoważonego rozwoju muszą liczyć się z ograniczonymi możliwościami pozyskania kapitału właścicielskiego i dłużnego, z racji znacznie węższego grona potencjalnych inwestorów oraz pożyczkodawców, praktycznie braku możliwości pozyskania finansowania dłużnego otwartego, jak również gorszych warunków finansowania. Jednocześnie, podjęcie odpowiednich działań, np. w postaci ścisłego określenia celu pozyskiwanego finansowania, który będzie korespondował z założeniami ESG, umożliwia zdobycie potrzebnego kapitału.

AbstractIn this paper I will analyze and criticize Linsbichler's recent proposition to interpret the fundamental axiom of Praxeology as analytic. I will first describe Linsbichler's problem situation. I will then describe and criticize Linsbichler's proposed solution to his problem; namely his interpretation of the fundamental axiom as analytic. I will argue that this idea does not fully utilize critical potentials that are available to improve the fundamental axiom. I will propose an alternative interpretation which I call the 'critical interpretation' that conserves the progressive aspects of Linsbichler's proposal while eliminating undesirable ones.

W polu teoretyczno-praktycznych zainteresowań polityki społecznej kultura zajmuje miejsce poślednie. Jest zarazem pojęciem trudnym do zdefiniowania. Nieustannie rozszerza się jego zakres i zacierają się jego granice. Znajduje to wyraz w postępującej estetyzacji (kulturalizacji) rzeczywistości oraz rosnącej roli ekonomii doświadczenia. Kultura staje się ikonosferą (sferą znaków). Świadectwem tych kłopotów z konceptualizacją kultury są nieudane próby definiowania przemysłów kreatywnych. W tej sytuacji jedyną użyteczną definicją kultury jest definicja antropologiczna, a więc ogólna i opisowa. W polityce społecznej konieczna jest zatem rewizja standardowego podejścia do zjawiska uczestnictwa w kulturze, w którym "kultura" ograniczona jest zwykle do sfery artystycznej, a "uczestnictwo" – do określonych zachowań w obszarze instytucji artystycznych.

This article seeks to explore the interrelationship of two facets characterising eighteenth-century travel writing – art commentaries and national discourse. It is demonstrated that one of the reasons behind the travellers' repetitious attempts to fashion themselves as connoisseurs was a need to re-affirm their national identity. To this end it offers an analysis of two travel texts coming from two different political moments – Daniel Defoe's A Tour thro' the Whole Island of Great Britain (1724–1726), constituting an attempt to read the British as a "great" and prosperous nation after the union of 1707, and Tobias Smollett's idiosyncratic Travels through France and Italy (1766), shedding light on the British attitude towards the South in the aftermath of the Seven Years' War and at the outset of the cult of feeling in Britain. It will also be argued that the numerous art commentaries throughout the narratives had a political agenda and supported the national discourse underpinning the texts.
