AbstractThe pain caused by the patriarchal totalitarianism of different modern political regimes is felt by everyone in our time: poverty, unemployment, high exploitation of both nature and humans, systematic oppression, persecution and domination, and pollution that threatens human existence. This article analyzes the different forms of patriarchy in contemporary China and explores a feminist way out. The first part examines how modern patriarchy unfolds itself through the land-enclosure movement that has caused serious pollution in China. I will show that the patriarchal process of development is a double exploitation of both nature and humans. The second part turns to the patriarchy in traditional Chinese philosophies and explores possible dangers in Confucian feminism. In the last part I try to posit as a solution Daoist ecofeminism as a new democracy, wherein the feminist ontology and the freedom of all beings will be explored.

This book focuses on ecological damage: the damage to private natural resources which have an ecological value in excess of their market value and the damage to public natural resources. Its aim is to design a compensation system, taking into account the interaction between regulation, liability rules and compensation mechanisms (such as liability insurance, direct insurance, risk-sharing agreements, environmental funds, other guarantees and capital markets), to both prevent and compensate for ecological damage. Three new compensation models are proposed in this research, mainly based on the desirability and feasibility of a mandatory financial security system. In addition to briefly exploring the existing experience in the US, the EU and international regimes, this book also provides both theoretical and empirical research on the Chinese compensation system, which the existing literature has largely neglected

The letter of recommendation (LR) as a means to communicate across different cultures for the purpose of applying for entering a university can be problematic. Using contrastive rhetoric analytic framework, this paper compares LRs written by Chinese and English native speaker professionals. Discussion of culturally situated interpretations of the LRs is based on interviews with university professors who have been on the admission committee. The findings show similarities in macro discourse structure but differences in discourse content between the LRs, which suggest that successful intercultural communication in LRs requires meticulous dialogue with the 'other' according to Bakhtin's theory of dialogism. Unequal power relationship between writer and reader is also discussed from critical discourse analysis perspective.

This paper develops an accounting-based equity valuation model for multinational firms, and uses the model to examine the forecasting and valuation properties of foreign currency translation gains and losses (TGL). It shows that TGL can be systematically decomposed into a core component and a transitory component; and because the two components are negatively correlated, the combined effect is that TGL is "more transitory" than transitory earnings, mapping into value with a weight between zero and one. The analysis helps to resolve the classical debate on the value relevance of TGL by showing that the opposing views are special cases of a more general framework.

This edited book explores the complex and multifaceted connections between education and migration in an Asian context from multiple perspectives. It features studies from China, Japan, India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste and covers diverse migration and education experiences. These experiences encompass internal and international migration and forced displacement, as well as questions surrounding education such as school choice, education provision and training as human capital; education and social inclusion; and student performance in a post-conflict context. By covering a wide range of questions and situations, the original scholarship in this book reveals how human development concerns and higher rates of movement within and outside of Asian countries operate on multiple levels in a globalized world.

Abstract
Algeria is an important country in Africa and the Middle East, which plays an active role in African affairs. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, it has maintained a harmonious and friendly relationship with Algeria. In 2014, Algeria became the first Arab country with which China established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Within the framework of China-Algeria comprehensive strategic partnership, the two sides have broad space for cooperation in regional and international affairs. The development of China- Algeria relations is conducive to raising friendly cooperative relations between China and Arab and African countries to a new level, and to the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative in the Middle East and Africa.
