Abstract
Spanish historiography has dealt almost exclusively with the figure of Isidro Gomá as the Primate of the Church in Spain, an office in which he supported and legitimized for the benefit of the Catholic world the rebellion of 18 July 1936 that triggered the Civil War. However, little is known of Gomá's activity prior to attaining such an elevated post. This article examines, through the study of primary sources, his work as Bishop of the small diocese of Tarazona and Tudela, where he believed that his vehement opposition to secular reforms would make him an example to follow among the extremist anti-republican sectors of the Church and would turn him into the ideal candidate for the position of Primate of Spain at the Holy See.
This article looks at the evolution of labour historiography in Italy, a movement that emerged from Marxism and was linked to the PCI. This militant historiography was characterized by the compilation of documentary sources and the study of the organised movement, while general socio-economic issues were under discussion. The second phase, from 1956 onward, saw Italian labour historiography making advances in achieving greater thoroughness, involving the opening of more archives and expanding the research to politically sensitive issues. Subsequently, in the light of changes experienced by the country in the 1960s and 1970s, and thanks to foreign historiographies, the Italian labour historiography lost its militant nature in a progressive way and developed new queries and methodologies.

Comparing the beginnings of Spanish and French Social Historiography. This commentary examines the origins of Spanish and French social historiography showing how they had common features despite evolving at different rates and intensities, and embodying two different approaches to
the labour world. The first approach was that of liberal professionals who examined the working class motivated by their concern for what was called the social question. The second, fundamental approach until well into the twentieth century was that of the militant authors in other words,
authors who were linked to the labour movement itself. For a long time this militant legacy could be seen in a type of history that was marked by an epic view of events, whose interpretation contained strong political implications. The advent of the Spanish Civil War checked this evolution
and had markedly different effects on the development of the two lines of labour history research in each country.

In France, during the second half of the 20 th. Century, a group of female historians developed their universitarian studies and with their work and effort, guaranteed the women presence in posts of academic responsibility.
