En base a información estadística de los censos nacionales de población de 2001 y económico de 2005, y de resultados de investigaciones nacionales, se realizan contribuciones para determinar por un lado, los aportes que la arquitectura sustentable produciría en el balance energético-ambiental del país, considerando principalmente la aplicación de medidas de eficiencia energética en el sector residencial, y por otro, las barreras que impiden la implementación de planes nacionales adecuados. Entre éstas, una de las más graves es la ineficiencia administrativa de los organismos públicos causada tanto por burocracias intrincadas, como por la baja capacitación general de sus funcionarios, la atomización y encapsulamiento de las numerosas reparticiones nacionales y provinciales influenciadas por intereses sectoriales y/o privados. Mediante operaciones sencillas pero fundamentadas, se estima que los consumos energéticos y las emisiones de CO2 asociadas del Sector se pueden reducir en un 76%, significando un fuerte impacto en el balance energético-ambiental nacional con un ahorro del orden del 16%. ; Based on statistical information from national population census of 2001, economic census of 2005, and results of national investigations, some inputs have been done in order to determine on the one hand, the contributions that could be produced by means of sustainable architecture in the energy-environmental balance of the country, especially considering the application of energy efficiency measures in the residential sector, and secondly, the existing barriers to implement appropriate national plans. Among these, one of the most serious is the administrative inefficiency of government agencies caused by intricate bureaucracies as well as the low general training of its staff, and also the atomization and encapsulation of the numerous provincial and national divisions, which are influenced by sectoral and/or private interests. Published by American Chemical Society. ; Accessing the regime of coherent phonon propagation in nanostructures opens enormous possibilities to control the thermal conductivity in energy harvesting devices, phononic circuits, etc. In this paper we show that coherent phonons contribute substantially to the thermal conductivity of LaCoO3/SrTiO3 oxide superlattices, up to room temperature. We show that their contribution can be tuned through small variations of the superlattice periodicity, without changing the total superlattice thickness. Using this strategy, we tuned the thermal conductivity by 20% at room temperature. We also discuss the role of interface mixing and epitaxial relaxation as an extrinsic, material dependent key parameter for understanding the thermal conductivity of oxide superlattices. ; Peer reviewed

We report the fabrication of epitaxial Y 3 F e 5 O 12 (YIG) thin films on G d 3 G a 5 O 12 (111) using a chemical solution method. Cubic YIG is a ferrimagnetic material at room temperature, with excellent magneto-optical properties, high electrical resistivity, and a very narrow ferromagnetic resonance, which makes it particularly suitable for applications in filters and resonators at microwave frequencies. But these properties depend on the precise stoichiometry and distribution of F e 3 + ions among the octahedral/tetrahedral sites of a complex structure, which hampered the production of high-quality YIG thin films by affordable chemical methods. Here we report the chemical solution synthesis of YIG thin films, with excellent chemical, crystalline, and magnetic homogeneity. The films show a very narrow ferromagnetic resonance (long spin relaxation time), comparable to that obtained from high-vacuum physical deposition methods. For this purpose, we have studied the dependence of the inverse spin Hall voltage and the thermal conductivity on the magnetic layer thickness. Knowledge of these quantities allows us to take into account the influence of both sources of thermal spin current in the analysis of the voltage dependence. The magnetic layer thickness modulates the relative magnitude of the involved thermal drops for a fixed total thermal difference throughout the sample. In the end, we attain the separate contributions of both sources of thermal spin current—bulk and interfacial—and obtain the value of the thermal magnon accumulation length scale in maghemite, which we find to be 29(1) nm. According to our results, bulk magnon accumulation dominates the spin Seebeck effect in our studied range of thicknesses, but the interfacial component is by no means negligible ; This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science [through Project Nos.
