MANY NEWS ORGANIZATIONS RANK OR RATE STATE LEGISLATORS AS "BEST" OR "WORST," AS "MOST EFFECTIVE" OR "LEAST EFFECTIVE." THIS STUDY ASSESSES THE VALIDITY OF SUCH RATINGS AND THEIR IMPACT AT THE POLLS. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT MEDIA RANKINGS CANNOT BE DISMISSED AS INVALID NOR CAN THEIR IMPACT AT THE POLLS BE COMPLETELY DISCOUNTED. ALTHOUGH THE EFFECTS ARE SMALL, IT HELPS TO BE RANKED AS AMONG THE BEST AND IT HURTS TO BE AMONG THE WORST.
