Stefanie Müller erfasst in ihrem Text die Biographie von Anna, einer jungen Frau, die von ihrer Zeit vor, während und nach dem Verlassen der Gemeinschaft der Zeugen Jehovas berichtet. Der Essay ist halbfiktional und entstand aus verschiedenen Interviews mit ehemaligen Zeugen Jehovas. Die Autorin fasst gemeinsame Aussagen der Akteure zusammen und kreiert eine fiktionale Person dessen Leben vor und nach den Zeugen Jehovas geschildert wird. Die Fragestellung ist diskursiv in den Text integriert und untersucht durch welche Leitbilder/Rituale sich die Kontrolle durch die Gemeinschaft der Zeugen Jehovas auswirkt, und wie der Übergang von der einen in die andere Wertewelt bei ehemaligen Zeugen Jehovas vollzogen wird. Die Autorin bezeichnet ehemalige Zeugen Jehovas als "geistige Migranten" und stellt die These auf, ehemalige Zeugen Jehovas machten sich mit ihrem Ausstieg auf die Reise in eine Welt, die sie zwar kennen, deren Werte, Rituale und Weltbild sie bisher nicht jedoch geteilt haben. Der Essay ist ein Versuch dieses "Phänomen des Weltenwechsels" (Neitz) in biographischer Form wiederzugeben.

Although community project planning is widely understood as crucial to equitable wind energy infrastructure planning, involved members of the public nevertheless perceive such participatory interventions as merely pseudo-participatory. Drawing on agonistic planning literature, we argue that this disposition towards tokenism can only be tackled with a (re)politization of community project planning practices. This includes an explicit (re)integration and cultivation of dissent and the potential overthrow of traditionally consensus-oriented formats that follow the deliberative paradigm. For radically political community energy project planning, however, public discourses must be fluid and participants must be open towards dissent, which largely contradicts the typical postures of a deliberative citizen who is supposed to argue in a rational and objective way, using the best arguments to convince others. To examine the feasibility of agonistic approaches for community wind energy planning, we conducted a quantitative discourse analysis on the data set of a large regional survey of an on-going wind energy planning project in Switzerland. We focused on estimating the degree of hegemony of public wind energy discourses and the willingness of residents to engage in participatory settings that can facilitate radically political community project planning (e.g., substantive participation settings). Our results show that for planning individual wind energy projects, the potential for agonistic planning approaches is low, not only because the discourses are already too hegemonic, but also because there is no real willingness to engage in radically political community wind energy project planning. In the context of early, comprehensive, and integrated community planning, however, agonistic approaches could provide the ground for open and innovative participatory planning of renewable energies.

<i>Aims:</i> To investigate which motives young adolescents indicate for first-time alcohol consumption and whether these motives are linked to risky drinking. <i>Methods:</i> Logistic regressions were used based on a nationally representative sample of 1,654 11- to 14-year-olds who had consumed alcohol at least once. <i>Results:</i> 'To toast' (42.5%), 'to find out what effect it would have' (36.4%), and 'to have more fun at a party' (31.0%) were most frequently indicated as motives. Boys indicated curiosity about the effect more often than girls who instead more frequently indicated coping motives. Those who had their first drink 'to have more fun at a party' or 'because it was exciting' had a higher likelihood of risky drinking. Moreover, those who indicated depression as a motive were three times more likely to have 5 or more drinks on a single occasion. <i>Conclusions:</i> Information on young people's motives for first-time drinking appears to play a significant role in primary prevention, e.g. to prevent risky drinking or alcohol-related problems later in life by postponing alcohol use.

Aims: This study examines exposure to secondhand smoke and smoking behavior in the German general population before and after the introduction of new smoke-free laws in 2007 and 2008. Methods: Data came from the 2006 and 2009 German Epidemiological Survey of Substance Abuse (ESA). A propensity-score-matched subsample of n = 7,412 subjects between 18 and 64 years was used for the analysis. We employed multinomial logistic regression to examine changes in exposure to secondhand smoke at work, during leisure time, and at home among nonsmokers between 2006 and 2009. Logistic and ordinary least square regression were used to address changes in cigarette smoking prevalence and number of cigarettes smoked among smokers. Results: Exposure to secondhand smoke at work and during leisure time was substantially reduced in 2009 compared to 2006. The number of cigarettes smoked decreased in the same time period. No changes were found for exposure to secondhand smoke at home and cigarette smoking prevalence. However, sensitivity analysis revealed a moderate stability of the results for exposure to secondhand smoke at home and number of cigarettes smoked. Conclusions: Results indicate that smoke-free laws constitute an important step forward in the protection of nonsmokers in Germany. However, our findings suggest that specific preventive measures are still needed to reduce cigarette smoking prevalence.

Aims: This paper evaluates nonconfounded and independent age, period, and cohort effects on time trends and social disparities in smoking behavior. Methods: Data from nine waves of the German Epidemiological Survey of Substance Abuse (ESA) conducted between 1980 and 2009 were used. A total of N = 73,782 individuals aged 18 and older were included in the analyses. Using cross-classified random-effects models, fixed effects of age (level 1) as well as random effects of periods and cohorts (level 2) on 30-day smoking prevalence and average number of cigarettes per day were estimated. Analyses were stratified by socioeconomic status (SES). Results: Independent of SES, positive and curvilinear age effects emerged. Prevalence and amount of smoking declined sharply over time and revealed an inversion of the social gradient in 2003. This was due to a stronger decrease of smoking in the highest SES group compared to the other groups. Cohort effects were nonlinear and inconsistent. Conclusion: The emergence of increasing social disparities in smoking implies the need to specifically address the situation of low-SES groups when developing tobacco control measures.

Ziel: Untersucht wurden Trends des Konsums sowie substanzbezogener Störungen von illegalen Drogen, Alkohol, Tabak und Medikamenten über einen Zeitraum von 15 Jahren (1995–2009). Methodik: Daten liefern sechs Erhebungswellen des Epidemiologischen Suchtsurveys (ESA), die zwischen 1995 und 2009 durchgeführt wurden. Alle Erhebungen erfolgten schriftlich bzw. in einem Mixed-Modus Design und erzielten Antwortraten zwischen 45 und 65 %. Ergebnisse: Die 12-Monats-Prävalenz von Cannabis lag im Jahr 2009 (5.2 %) nach einem Maximum im Jahr 2003 (6.9 %) auf einem niedrigeren Niveau. Die bis zum Jahr 2003 zu beobachtende Verschiebung des Alkoholkonsums (letzte 30 Tage) hin zu weniger riskanten Konsummustern setzte sich in den Erhebungen bis zum Jahr 2009 nicht fort. Dagegen wies die 30-Tage-Prävalenz des Rauchens einen konstanten Rückgang auf und lag 2009 bei 30.3 %. Eine negative Entwicklung zeigte sich im Gebrauch von Schmerzmitteln (letzte 30 Tage), der im Jahr 2009 einen deutlichen Zuwachs aufwies. In Bezug auf Cannabis- und Nikotinabhängigkeit sowie problematischen Alkohol- und Medikamentengebrauch ließen sich keine wesentlichen Veränderungen in den 12-Monats-Prävalenzwerten feststellen. Schlussfolgerungen: Über den gesamten Beobachtungszeitraum ging die höchste Belastung von legalen Drogen aus, gefolgt von Medikamenten und illegalen Drogen. Die weitere Beobachtung von Konsumtrends ist von großer gesundheitspolitischer Bedeutung.

Ziel: Untersucht wurden Prävalenzen des Konsums sowie substanzbezogener Störungen von illegalen Drogen, Alkohol, Tabakwaren und Medikamenten. Methodik: Die Stichprobe des Epidemiologischen Suchtsurveys (ESA) 2009 umfasst 8.030 Personen im Alter zwischen 18 und 64 Jahren und wurde in einem zweistufigen Verfahren auf Grundlage der Einwohnermelderegister zufällig gezogen. Die Befragung erfolgte schriftlich, telefonisch bzw. über das Internet und erzielte eine Antwortrate von 50.1 %. Ergebnisse: In den letzten 12 Monaten haben 4.8 % der Befragten Cannabis, 0.8 % Kokain und 0.7 % Amphetamine konsumiert. Bezogen auf die letzten 30 Tage gaben 59.9 % einen risikoarmen und 16.5 % einen riskanten Alkoholkonsum an. Als aktuelle Raucher (30-Tage-Prävalenz) konnten 29.2 % der Befragten klassifiziert werden. Mit einer 12-Monats-Prävalenz von 61.6 % waren Schmerzmittel die am häufigsten eingenommenen Medikamente. Schätzungen zu substanzbezogenen Störungen ergaben für Cannabisabhängigkeit 1.2 % und für Nikotinabhängigkeit 6.3 %. Für problematischen Alkoholkonsum wurden 19.0 % und für problematischen Medikamentengebrauch 4.0 % ermittelt. Schlussfolgerungen: Die Ergebnisse belegen eine hohe gesundheitspolitische Bedeutung des Substanzkonsums in Deutschland. Um negative Konsequenzen des Konsumverhaltens zu vermeiden, sind eine effektive Versorgung behandlungsbedürftiger Personen sowie frühzeitige Präventionsbemühungen erforderlich.
