Reflections on Intelligence
In: Intelligence and national security, Band 2, Heft 1, S. 92-96
ISSN: 0268-4527
Some issues surrounding intelligence operations & national security are explored from the perspective of a former Irish Minister for External Affairs, revolutionary nationalist, politician, & lawyer, who had a lifelong exposure to Britain intelligence operations. Some factors that changed the nature & increased the scope of the secret services worldwide during the twentieth century are discussed, including new forms of communication & the development of colonial empires & attendant nationalist elements. The activities of the British Secret Service in Ireland are detailed, which included the commission of terrorist acts that were subsequently blamed on nationalist groups. This expansion of the British Secret Service activities is paralleled by the spread of the US Central Intelligence Agency into political activities in the Third World & elsewhere. K. Hyatt
