Research with survivors of political violence in Latin America have shown that any analysis of the consequences of war or political repression should take into account the social and political realities in which the survivors are immersed. It has also shown that research must go hand in hand with action, intervention and psychosocial support for communities that confront violence. In this article, the authors review some of the basic principles that should guide research and action within the context of war or other political violence. We discuss the roles that the researcher needs to adopt in order to successfully develop work that will be of use to the social and scienti¢c community. In addition, we describe some of the methodological implications of psychosocial research and the importance of re£ective processes that could contrib- ute to community wellbeing. The theoretical descriptions are substantiated through examples of action research in Jujuy (Argentina) with for- mer political prisoners and relatives of detainees, or the disappeared, from the time of the last mili- tary dictatorship (1976^1983).

Este artículo recoge las vivencias de mujeres con familiares detenidos-desaparecidos durante la última dictadura militar (Argentina, 1976-1983) y mujeres que sobrevivieron a las cárceles y/o Centros Clandestinos de Detención en la Provincia de Jujuy. A través de entrevistas en profundidad y cuestionarios, los autores pretenden: a) visibilizar las memorias del pasado represivo jujeño desde la percepción de las mujeres; b) explorar el impacto psicosocial de la violencia y las estrategias de afrontamiento esgrimidas para enfrentar el dolor y la represión y, c) conocer sus creencias acerca de las medidas de reparación y justicia aprobadas desde el inicio de la democracia hasta el año en que esta investigación fue concluida (2008).

Se estudia el rol predictor de variables psicosociales sobre las creencias en torno al perdónpolítico luego de la dictadura chilena (N=1267). Un análisis de regresión múltiple indicaque las variables que cumplen un rol más relevante (R2=0.23) son: la eficacia percibida en lasdisculpas (β=0.24), la emoción de ira (β=-0.17), el compartir social (β=0.44) y la confianzainstitucional (β=0.64). A menores niveles de ira y mayores niveles de confianza institucional,sinceridad y eficacia percibida en las disculpas, mayor es el acuerdo con que las víctimas de laviolencia política lograrán perdonar a quienes les han hecho daño en el pasado. This study explores the impact of repressive violence during the last Argentinean military dictatorship's on a sample of relatives of people detained-disappeared for political reasons (n=30) and people who survived imprisionment and torture (n=22). Facing of the experience from a political point of view, remaining socially active and positive social support are string elements in providing sense to the experience and generating a positive identity as a survivor. Viceversa, hidding and avoidance are related to post-traumatic symptoms, difficulties in the mourning process and a greater negative impact on basic beliefs. ; El presente estudio explora el impacto que tuvo la violencia represiva de la última dictadura militar argentina en una muestra de familiares de personas detenidas desaparecidas (n=30) y de personas que sobrevivieron a las cárceles de la dictadura (n=22). De los resultados se extrae que un tipo de afrontamiento activo de la experiencia y un apoyo social positivo, se relaciona con la posibilidad de dar sentido a lo ocurrido y la generación de una identidad en el sobreviviente. A la inversa, las formas de afrontamiento marcadas por la evitación se relacionan con más sintomatología de estrés postraumático, mayor alteración en el proceso de duelo y mayor impacto negativo en las creencias básicas.

Loneliness, social isolation and exclusion are worldwide social problems with negative effects which are exacerbated in deprived groups and communities. From a qualitative perspective, this paper examines the approach to loneliness in 62 community-based social inclusion centres and programmes for people experiencing exclusion in the Basque Country (Spain). The aim of the study was to identify good practice in dealing with loneliness in centres and programmes and to understand the main challenges in providing support from the perspective of practitioners. The results show that best practices focus on individualised or person-centred interventions, the generation of interaction spaces that promote social relations, accompaniment as an intervention tool, empowerment and community participation, and employment and socio-professional training. The main challenges and difficulties are grouped into four levels. These include the users' own individual difficulties (lack of motivation, progressive deterioration and poor social skills, etc.). To a lesser extent, insufficient professionalisation of inclusion services, insufficient resources (lack of human and material means) and society's own difficulties such as stigma and social rejection are mentioned. It discusses the community intervention implications that practitioners can take into account to mitigate the loneliness of people at risk and/or socially excluded.

Resumen: Desde el fin de la última dictadura militar (1976-1983) hasta la actualidad, se han implementado en Argentina una serie de medidas transicionales de carácter retributivo (como los Juicios a las Juntas Militares o los Juicios por Delitos de Lesa Humanidad que se desarrollan en la actualidad) y restaurativo (como las peticiones públicas de perdón por agentes o representantes del Estado). Estas medidas, acompañadas por otras basadas en el derecho a la verdad, se supone que, a nivel microsocial, ayudan a dignifi car a las víctimas de las violaciones a los derechos humanos y, a nivel macrosocial, permiten avanzar en la construcción de una historia integradora, la recuperación de la confi anza intergrupal e incluso inician procesos de reconciliación en el tejido social. Este artículo explora el conocimiento, valoración, impacto emocional y efi cacia percibida en una muestra de población argentina (N=477), teniéndose en cuenta el nivel de exposición a la violencia y la ideología de las personas entrevistadas. De los resultados se desprende que la información disponible sobre las medidas retributivas y restaurativas es baja, y que este conocimiento desciende entre la población no afectada y en las personas que se posicionan ideológicamente hacia la derecha. La aprobación y percepción de efi cacia e impacto emocional de las medidas retributivas son en general positivas, aunque también varían en función de estas variables. La efi cacia de las medidas restaurativas es más limitada y la reconciliación, que se considera algo deseable, depende fundamentalmente de la aplicación de justicia y castigo a los responsables de la violencia. ; Abstract: Since the end of the last military dictatorship (1976/1983) to the present, Argentina has implemented a series of transitional measures of remunerative type (such as the Judgments to the Military Junta or judgments against humanity's crimes taking place today) and restorative type (as public petitions for forgiveness by agents or State's representatives). These measures, along with others based on the right to truth, are assumed that in a micro-social level, help to dignify the victims of human rights violations and, at the macro-social level, allow progress in the construction of an inclusive history, the recovery of intergroup trust and even initiate intergroup reconciliation processes in (the social society). This article explores the knowledge, appreciation, emotional impact and perceives effi ciency in a sample of argentine population (N=477), taking into account the level of exposure to violence and the ideological positioning of participants. From results it is clear that the available information about the remunerative and restorative measures is low, and this knowledge descends between the not affected population and in those ideologically self-positioned towards the right. The approval, perceived effectiveness and emotional impact of the remunerative measures are generally positive, though they change depending on these variables. The effi ciency of the restorative measures is more limited and the reconciliation, which is considered desirable, depends primarily on the application of justice and punishment for those responsible for the violence.

Original survey data from Chile are used (N = 1267) to study the determinants of attitudes toward transitional rituals (1991 National Truth and Reconciliation Commission). A logistic regression analysis based on this data was carried out to evaluate the work of truth commissions as the dependent variable (in terms of "approval" and "disapproval"). Results reveal that predictors of favorable attitudes toward truth commissions include emotions such as sadness and hope, TRCs' contribution to truth and to the construction of an inclusive history (and to a lesser extent to justice), high social sharing, perception of a positive social climate, high institutional trust, and positive perception of official apologies. People supporting TRCs also agree with complementary reparation, suggesting that a positive attitude towards TRCs is negative related to denial the traumatic past. ; El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar un conjunto de variables predictoras del apoyo de los procesos de justicia transicional (Comisión Nacional de Verdad y Reconciliación, CNVR, 1991). Actualmente no disponemos de estudios que reporten las variables que predicen una valoración positiva de las dichas comisiones en Chile. Un análisis de regresión logística fue realizado con datos de una muestra de población general (N=1267) para evaluar el trabajo realizado por la Comisión (en términos de aprobación o rechazo). Los resultados indican que las emociones de tristeza y esperanza son buenas predictoras de actitudes favorables hacia el trabajo de la CNVR, así como el logro de los objetivos referidos a verdad, justicia y construcción de una historia integradora. Del mismo modo, altos niveles de compartición social de las experiencias, percepción del clima social como positivo, confianza institucional y una percepción positiva de las disculpas institucionales resultan buenos predictores de una positiva evaluación del trabajo de la CNVR. Las personas que a que valoran positivamente el trabajo de la comisión están más de acuerdo a su vez con las medidas de reparación y menos dispuestas a negar el pasado traumático.

AbstractUnconditional basic income (UBI) is a redistributive policy proposal that is receiving increasing attention in the Spanish political sphere. Welfare attitudes literature has shown that support for UBI is higher among left‐wing citizens and those of lower socioeconomic status. However, previous studies have not addressed the mediating role of ideological values such as egalitarianism or meritocratism in supporting UBI. Furthermore, studies have not considered the interactive relationship between ideological and self‐interest motives when studying attitudes toward UBI. Drawing on modernization theory, we propose that individuals' socioeconomic status conditions the role of ideological motivations in shaping support for UBI. To test this hypothesis, we study data from two different surveys conducted in Spain in 2017 (N = 1958) and 2021 (N = 2004). Our findings suggest that ideology is a less relevant motivation for supporting UBI among the Spanish citizens of lower socioeconomic status, but it becomes increasingly salient among higher‐status citizens. Among the latter, egalitarian values lead leftists to support UBI, whereas anti‐egalitarian and meritocratic values lead rightists to anti‐UBI positions. We discuss these findings within the framework of modernization theory, addressing support for UBI by different social groups and the ability of this policy proposal to elicit broad‐based support.

Este estudio analiza la actitud hacia el pasado represivo, así como el conocimiento, impacto y valoración que las diferentes generaciones argentinas tienen acerca de las medidas transicionales implementadas en relación a la dictadura militar. La muestra se compone de personas que vivieron dicho periodo siendo ya adultas (n = 62) y personas que nacieron después del inicio de la democracia (n = 203). De los resultados se extrae que los más jóvenes son quienes menos conocimiento tienen sobre el pasado y quienes más información desean tener, más importancia conceden a las medidas que contribuyen la difusión de lo ocurrido, la defensa de los derechos humanos, la reparación a las víctimas o los cambios institucionales. Además, son quienes con más eficacia perciben en los juicios por delitos de lesa humanidad que se están celebrando en la actualidad, quienes menos deseo muestran de reconciliarse y quienes más participan en actividades de recuerdo de las víctimas y referidas a la defensa y promoción de los derechos humanos.AbstractThis study analyzes the attitude towards the repressive past and the knowledge, impact and valuationthat the different generations in Argentina have about the transitional measures implemented in relationto the military dictatorship. The sample is composed by people who lived in the mentioned period being already adults (n=62) and people who were bornafter the beginning of the democracy (n= 203).Results show that younger people are the oneswith less knowledge on the past although theyare wishing to have more information about it.They grant more importance to measures suchas the diffusion of what happened, the defenseof human rights, the reparation to victims or theinstitutional changes and they also perceive higherefficacy in trials for crimes against humanity thatare taking place today.
