Examines the relationship between politicized ethnicity & issues of class as represented by economic inequality. It is concluded that ethnicity cannot be reduced to objective categories, & in particular, economic categories like class. Moreover, a crossnational statistical analysis of the relationship among politicized ethnicity, economic inequality, & political conflict contends that politicized ethnicity has a much stronger relationship with political conflict than does economic inequality, & that politicized ethnicity & economic inequality are relatively independent of each other. 1 Figure.
