The five rounds of talks from 1984, taken together, represent a desire on both sides to take process of dialogue to a higher plane. The emphasis was mainly on keeping the talks going on matters of mutual interest. The major problem for neighborly relations is demarcation of the 4,200 km long border. There have been favorable voices from Beijing and Delhi about the vastly improving cultural, educational, scientific and commercial relations. The border issue, however, is likely to defy solutions for several more years. (Intern. Polit. Science Assoc.)
