Demographic structure of Vojvodina, based on available sources, is very well known. Domination of Serbian, Craoatian, Hungarian, and German population in Vojvodina is documented through registrations. Historical events had an impact on the certain demographic movements in Vojvodina. Matica Srpska, as an institution which takes care about spiritual heritage of Serbian people has tried to find its role under new circumstances. Among others, domination of Slavic population has been set as a crucial issue in the realization of an idea of Vojvodina as a teritory of Slavic corpus. Consequently the secretary of Matica Srpska, dr Nikola Milutinovic, has announced his concept about the modelity of the gradual domination of Slavic population in Vojvodina.

An attempt to establish a specific form of global uniformity by the dominant world powers, even if it is to a certain degree flexible and economically acceptable, proved to be imprudent and controversial. Autochthonous development of specific nations in all its traditional, religious and historical entirety is inaccessible and very sensitive to the form of the dominant ideological concept. Even if multiculturalism, multinationalism and multiconfessionalism belong to civilization heritage, it turned out that their declarative respect and haughty globalization was a risky experiment. European Union, supporting the project "Structuring of Europe", intends to prove its multinational (as well as any other multi determination) in the authentic interdisciplinary research work in the study of the past of each European nation. The idea of this project is based on the creative integrative link of the national identity of European nations and European super-national identity which stems from the mosaic of their existence. Attitude to the formation of national identity among the Serbs should be based on the research about the determination of national identity from the beginning of the formation of the Serbian state till today. During the 19th century and till the 1920s, I believe that one should - when determining the national identity among the Serbs - focus on the research about the role of education and culture in the national identification and on the attitude to the Yugoslav idea. The complexity of the problem also includes the specific interrelations between the idea of national identity and the standpoint of The Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as the enthusiasm of romanticism liberal ideas, party programmes, dominant elite and intelligentsia contemporary ideological influences and so on.

Promišljanje ove teme iritirao je tekst Isidore Sekulić pod nazivom "Kulturni nacionalizam". On je izašao u časopisu Novi Srbin 1912. godine koji je uređivao Vasa Stajić u Somboru. Srpska nacionalna ideja i njena politička ekspresija, uoči "Velikog rata" suočavala se sa izazovima koji su uticali na njenu modifikaciju. Insistiranje na kulturnoj sadržini nacionalne ideje bio je narativ koji se na prostoru današnje Vojvodine, tada Južne Ugarske već duže vreme negovao. Aktivnost pod nazivom "knjige za narod" Matice srpske, iza koje je stajala delatnost Tihomira Ostojića imala je za cilj da edukativno oplemeni nacionalnu ideju. U tom procesu razvijao se polemički ton sa stanovištem nacionalnog romantizma koji se rukovodio emotivnim nabojem, a manje racionalnim uravnoteženjem nacionalne ideje. Sve to nam govori o vrlo dinamičkom procesu koji u istorijskim okolnostima ima upečatljive izraze ispoljavanja. Oni mogu da budu slični, ali nikako nisu identični i u tom smislu je pozivanje na analogiju bio mač sa dve oštrice koji je činio kreativnost i promišljanje ne samo manje delotvornim, već i nepoželjnim. Kulturna dimenzija nacionalne ideje je njen politički izraz koji je odgovarao konkretnoj istorijskoj epohi, ali je u pozadini imao jednu zanimljivu misao, a to je potreba za stalnim obrazovanjem i širenjem horizonta političke misli i vizije nacionalne ideje.

The Serbian Cultural Club is an organization founded in mid-January 1937. The Club pretended to be an non-party entity with the idea of cultural renaissance and broader national homogenization of the Serbian nation in The Kingdom of Yugoslavia, as an answer to the tendency for the political division of the country according to the national basis which was realized by the Cvetkovic-Macek Agreement from August 26, 1939. On the basis of that Agreement, formation of the Banat of Croatia started the division of the territories and federalization of the country along the ethnic principle. Since the borders between the constitutional nations of Yugoslavia were not clear in the territory and the theoretical pretensions were very conflicting. The Serbian Cultural Club tried to answer the challenge of the newly created situation. Its activity was specially visible in Vojvodina, having in mind the structure of the population, and there was also a numerous, nationally still not completely determined group of the Bunjevci and Sokci population. In an attempt to define their attitude to Vojvodina, intellectuals from The Serbian Cultural Club discussed all 'burning' issues related to the structure of the population, too. This paper would deal with his interesting and controversial topic. .
