The LHC BSM Reinterpretation Forum: et al. ; We report on the status of efforts to improve the reinterpretation of searches and measurements at the LHC in terms of models for new physics, in the context of the LHC Reinterpretation Forum. We detail current experimental offerings in direct searches for new particles, measurements, technical implementations and Open Data, and provide a set of recommendations for further improving the presentation of LHC results in order to better enable reinterpretation in the future. This article belongs to the Section Metal Casting, Forming and Heat Treatment. ; Machine Learning classification models have been trained and validated from a dataset (73 features and 13,616 instances) including experimental information of a clean cold forming steel fabricated by electric arc furnace and hot rolling. A classification model was developed to identify inclusion contents above the median. The following algorithms were implemented: Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors, Decision Tree, Random Forests, AdaBoost, Gradient Boosting, Support Vector Classifier and Artificial Neural Networks. Random Forest displayed the best results overall and was selected for the subsequent analyses. The Permutation Importance method was used to identify the variables that influence the inclusion cleanliness and the impact of these variables was determined by means of Partial Dependence Plots. The influence of the final diameter of the coil has been interpreted considering the changes induced by the process of hot rolling in the distribution of inclusions. Several variables related to the secondary metallurgy and tundish operations have been identified and interpreted in metallurgical terms. In addition, the inspection area during the microscopic examination of the samples also appears to influence the inclusion content. Recommendations have been established for the sampling process and for the manufacturing conditions to optimize the inclusionary cleanliness of the steel. ; This Project was carried out with the financial grant of the programs I + C = +C 2017 and INNOVA 2018. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A measurement is presented of electroweak (EW) production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at s√=13TeV. The data sample was recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The measurement is performed for the ℓνjj final state (with ℓν indicating a lepton–neutrino pair, and j representing the quarks produced in the hard interaction) in a kinematic region defined by invariant mass mjj>120GeV and transverse momenta pTj>25GeV. The cross section of the process is measured in the electron and muon channels yielding σEW(Wjj)=6.23±0.12(stat)±0.61(syst)pb per channel, in agreement with leading-order standard model predictions. The additional hadronic activity of events in a signal-enriched region is studied, and the measurements are compared with predictions. The final state is also used to perform a search for anomalous trilinear gauge couplings. Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge couplings associated with dimension-six operators are given in the framework of an effective field theory. The corresponding 95% confidence level intervals are −2.3

CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A measurement of the Higgs boson Yukawa coupling to the top quark is presented using proton-proton collision data at √s=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1, recorded with the CMS detector. The coupling strength with respect to the standard model value, Yt, is determined from kinematic distributions in t¯t final states containing ee, μμ, or eμ pairs. Variations of the Yukawa coupling strength lead to modified distributions for t¯t production. In particular, the distributions of the mass of the t¯t system and the rapidity difference of the top quark and antiquark are sensitive to the value of Yt. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; The ratios of the Bc(2S)+ to B+c, B∗c(2S)+ to B+c, and B∗c(2S)+ to Bc(2S)+ production cross sections are measured in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV, using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 143 fb−1. The three measurements are made in the B+c meson phase space region defined by the transverse momentum pT>15 GeV and absolute rapidity |y|<2.4, with the excited B(*)c(2S)+ states reconstructed through the B(*)+cπ+π−, followed by the B+c→J/ψπ+ and J/ψ→μ+μ− decays. The Bc(2S)+ to B+c, B∗c(2S)+ to B+c, and B∗c(2S)+ to Bc(2S)+ cross section ratios, including the unknown B(*)c(2S)+→B(*)+cπ+π− branching fractions, are (3.47±0.63(stat)±0.33(syst))%, (4.69±0.71(stat)±0.56(syst))%, and 1.35±0.32(stat)±0.09(syst), respectively. None of these ratios shows a significant dependence on the pT or |y| of the B+c meson. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A search is described for the production of a pair of bottom-type vectorlike quarks (VLQs), each decaying into a b or ¯b quark and either a Higgs or a Z boson, with a mass greater than 1000 GeV. The analysis is based on data from proton-proton collisions at a 13 TeV center-of-mass energy recorded at the CERN LHC, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. As the predominant decay modes of the Higgs and Z bosons are to a pair of quarks, the analysis focuses on final states consisting of jets resulting from the six quarks produced in the events. Since the two jets produced in the decay of a highly Lorentz-boosted Higgs or Z boson can merge to form a single jet, nine independent analyses are performed, categorized by the number of observed jets and the reconstructed event mode. No signal in excess of the expected background is observed. Lower limits are set on the VLQ mass at 95% confidence level equal to 1570 GeV in the case where the VLQ decays exclusively to a b quark and a Higgs boson, 1390 GeV for when it decays exclusively to a b quark and a Z boson, and 1450 GeV for when it decays equally in these two modes. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A search is conducted for a low-mass charged Higgs boson produced in a top quark decay and subsequently decaying into a charm and a strange quark. The data sample was recorded in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The search is performed in the process of top quark pair production, where one top quark decays to a bottom quark and a charged Higgs boson and the other to a bottom quark and a W boson. With the W boson decaying to a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino, the final state comprises an isolated lepton, missing transverse momentum, and at least four jets, of which two are tagged as b jets. To enhance the search sensitivity, one of the jets originating from the charged Higgs boson is required to satisfy a charm tagging selection. No significant excess beyond standard model predictions is found in the dijet invariant mass distribution. The ATLAS collaboration and the CMS collaboration: et al. ; The combination of measurements of the W boson polarization in top quark decays performed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations is presented. The measurements are based on proton-proton collision data produced at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 20 fb−1 for each experiment. The measurements used events containing one lepton and having different jet multiplicities in the final state. The results are quoted as fractions of W bosons with longitudinal (F0), left-handed (FL), or right-handed (FR) polarizations. The resulting combined measurements of the polarization fractions are F0 = 0.693 ± 0.014 and FL = 0.315 ± 0.011. The fraction FR is calculated from the unitarity constraint to be FR = −0.008 ± 0.007. These results are in agreement with the standard model predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and represent an improvement in precision of 25 (29)% for F0 (FL) with respect to the most precise single measurement. A limit on anomalous right-handed vector (VR), and left- and right-handed tensor (gL, gR) tWb couplings is set while fixing all others to their standard model values. The allowed regions are [−0.11, 0.16] for VR, [−0.08, 0.05] for gL, and [−0.04, 0.02] for gR, at 95% confidence level. The CMS Collaboration: et al. ; The first direct, model-independent measurement is presented of the modulus of the Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements |Vtb|, |Vtd|, and |Vts|, in final states enriched in single top quark t-channel events. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data from the LHC, collected during 2016 by the CMS experiment, at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Processes directly sensitive to these matrix elements are considered at both the production and decay vertices of the top quark. In the standard model hypothesis of CKM unitarity, a lower limit of |Vtb| >0.970 is measured at the 95% confidence level. The CMS collaboration: et al. ; The cross section of top quark pair production is measured in the tt¯→(ℓνℓ)(τhντ)bb¯¯¯ final state, where τh refers to the hadronic decays of the τ lepton, and ℓ is either an electron or a muon. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 collected in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the CMS detector. The measured cross section is σtt¯ = 781 ± 7 (stat) ± 62 (syst) ± 20 (lumi) pb, and the ratio of the partial width Γ(t → τντb) to the total decay width of the top quark is measured to be 0.1050 ± 0.0009 (stat) ± 0.0071 (syst). This is the first measurement of the tt¯ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV that explicitly includes τ leptons. The CMS Collaboration: et al. ; Measurements of production cross sections of WZ and same-sign WW boson pairs in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV at the LHC are reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1, collected with the CMS detector during 2016–2018. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes W±Z→ ±ν ′± ′∓and W±W±→ ±ν ′±ν, where , ′=e, μ. Differential fiducial cross sections as functions of the invariant masses of the jet and charged lepton pairs, as well as of the leading-lepton transverse momentum, are measured for W±W±production and are consistent with the standard model predictions. The dependence of differential cross sections on the invariant mass of the jet pair is also measured for WZ production. An observation of electroweak production of WZ boson pairs is reported with an observed (expected) significance of 6.8 (5.3) standard deviations. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A search for WW production from double-parton scattering processes using same-charge electron-muon and dimuon events is reported, based on proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The analyzed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 77.4fb−1, collected using the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016 and 2017. Multivariate classifiers are used to discriminate between the signal and the dominant background processes. A maximum likelihood fit is performed to extract the signal cross section. This leads to the first evidence for WW production via double-parton scattering, with a significance of 3.9 standard deviations. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A search in an all-jet final state for new massive resonances decaying to WW, WZ, or ZZ boson pairs using a novel analysis method is presented. The analysis is performed on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 77.3 fb−1 recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The search is focussed on potential narrow-width resonances with masses above 1.2 TeV, where the decay products of each W or Z boson are expected to be collimated into a single, large-radius jet. The signal is extracted using a three-dimensional maximum likelihood fit of the two jet masses and the dijet invariant mass, yielding an improvement in sensitivity of up to 30% relative to previous search methods. No excess is observed above the estimated standard model background. In a heavy vector triplet model, spin-1 Z′ and W′ resonances with masses below 3.5 and 3.8 TeV, respectively, are excluded at 95% confidence level. In a bulk graviton model, upper limits on cross sections are set between 27 and 0.2 fb for resonance masses between 1.2 and 5.2 TeV, respectively. CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A search for a narrow resonance with a mass between 350 and 700 GeV, and decaying into a pair of jets, is performed using proton-proton collision events containing at least three jets. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.3 fb−1 √s = 13 TeV recorded at with the CMS detector. Data are collected with a technique known as "data scouting", in which the events are reconstructed, selected, and recorded at a high rate in a compact form by the high-level trigger. The three-jet final state provides sensitivity to lower resonance masses than in previous searches using the data scouting technique. The spectrum of the dijet invariant mass, calculated from the two jets with the largest transverse momenta in the event, is used to search for a resonance. No significant excess over a smoothly falling background is found. Limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a narrow dijet resonance and compared with the cross section of a vector dark matter mediator coupling to dark matter particles and quarks. Translating to a model where the narrow resonance interacts only with quarks, upper limits on this coupling range between 0.10 and 0.15, depending on the resonance mass. The CMS Collaboration: et al. ; A measurement of the production cross section of top quark pairs in association with two bjets (ttbb) is presented using data collected in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV by the CMS detector at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The cross section is measured in the all-jet decay channel of the top quark pair by selecting events containing at least eight jets, of which at least two are identified as originating from the hadronization of bquarks. A combination of multivariate analysis techniques is used to reduce the large background from multijet events not containing a top quark pair, and to help discriminate between jets originating from top quark decays and other additional jets. The cross section is determined for the total phase space to be 5.5 ±0.3 (stat)+1.6−1.3(syst) pb and also measured for two fiducial ttbb definitions.
