Identifies women as vital in combating the right-wing assault on equality of opportunity. Suggests that when women of color have doubts, it is often due to the perception that affirmative action has benefited white women at the expense of men of color. Includes a resource section in information geared to women and affirmative action.

Reviews a sampling of the 24 books listed at the end of the article whose authors define their scope broadly enough to expect some discussion of Asian, Latino, and Native American protest. Also, these are books whose year of publication makes possible such coverage. Discovers a massive omission of activism by peoples of color other than African Americans. (Abstract amended)

Metadata only record ; This paper applies a model of food price variability to examine the outcomes of government interventions in the rice market in the Philippines. The authors describe the simple econometric model that evaluates the changes in farmgate and retail level prices caused by changes in government stock. They use monthly price and stock data from 1975 to 1992 to quantify the impact of government buffer-stock programs on both seasonal and annual variability in rice prices for producers and consumers. The results suggest that at the aggregate level, NFA stock changes do not exert any significant stabilization on price changes - neither seasonally nor annually.
