The term gauche divine, coined by journalist Joan Segarra in 1967, was used to designate a heterogeneous group of writers, photographers, architects, designers, and intellectuals active during the late 60's and early 70's in Barcelona. Often described as elititist and frivolous, they were accused of limiting their opposition to Franco's dictatorship to the realm of sexuality and everyday life. This article resists this type of interpretation, underlying the centraliy of cultural activism, and particularly urban activism, in the group's activity. Despite the limitations imposed by Francoism as well as their own ideological contradictions, the "divinos" contibuted to fostering a sphere of public debate on the city that paved the way for the neighbourhood movements of the Spanish Transition to Democracy.

The paper examines the history and the critical reception of the "Salón femenino de arte actual", an annual all-female exhibition organized by a group of women artists in Barcelona between 1962 and 1971. Unique at the time, the "Salón" challenged the traditional role attributed to women under Franco's dictatorship, managing at the same time to obtain support from local authorities. The paper argues that it was the ability of the organisers to take advantage of political ambivalence, to find a delicate balance between complicity and resistance, which allowed the exhibition to survive for almost a decade ; Cet article retrace l'histoire et la réception critique du « Salón femenino de arte actual », une exposition annuelle de femmes artistes organisée par un groupe de plasticiennes à Barcelone entre 1962 et 1971.
