THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES THE ARGUMENTS LENIN EMPLOYED AFTER THE OCTOBER REVOLUTION IN ORDER TO JUSTIFY PARTY DICTATORSHIP OVER THE WORKING CLASS. IT CHALLENGES THE CONVENTIONAL VIEW THAT LENIN DEFENDED CONSTRAINTS ON PROLETARIAN CHOICE BY APPEALING TO THE PATERNALISTIC VANGUARD THEORY SET FORTH IN "WHAT IS TO BE DONE?" A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF LENIN'S REVOLUTIONARY WRITINGS INDICATES THAT HIS LEGITIMATION STRATEGY WAS BASED INSTEAD ON AN ESSENTIALIST INTERPRETATION OF CLASS IDENTITY THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE TO DENY PROLETARIAN STATUS, AND THUS DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS, TO WAGE-LABORERS WHO OPPOSED BOLSHEVIK RULE. IT IS LENIN'S THEORY OF CLASS, THEREFORE, NOT HIS THEORY OF THE PARTY "PER SE," THAT IS VITAL FOR AN UNDERSTANDING OF HIS AUTHORITARIAN POLITICS.

THIS ARTICLE CONTENDS THAT THE EARLY SOCIALIST MOVEMENT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE MODERN CRISIS OF AUTHORITY AND THAT THE TYPE OF AUTHORITY THAT HANNAH ARENDT DESCRIBED PLAYS AN IMPORTANT PART IN LENIN'S THEORY. FAR FROM DISAPPEARING. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES, AUTHORITY HAS IN FACT REEMERGED IN PRECISLY THOSE REGIMES THAT ARENDT CALLS "ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN."

The association of ground-digging activity of feral pigs with a range of
environmental variables was examined in the wet tropics World Heritage Area of
north Queensland. Approximately 4% of the surveyed ground was disturbed
by digging activity of feral pigs. Significant differences in diggings were
detected between highland and lowland areas and between habitat types.
Diggings were more prevalent in lowland areas and coastal swamp habitats.
Diggings were positively associated with roads, tracks and moist drainage
lines.

In a knowledge-based economy, it is imperative to understand the collaborative process between universities and their surroundings. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the key characteristics of UABC's collaboration process within its social, productive and governmental environment. The research is based on a case study in which the data collection method was a semi-structured interview applied to researchers of AUBC's Institutes. Among the main findings was the normative ambiguity regarding collaboration activities, which have brought significant cognitive impact on researchers; also, the management and organization of the University do not reflect institutional efforts to build professional skills for outreaching activities based on the knowledge, which, correspondingly, does not favor the consolidation of this important university function. ; En la ruta hacia la economía y la sociedad basadas en el conocimiento, es importante la comprensión del proceso colaborativo de las universidades con su entorno, es por eso que este documento tiene el propósito de identificar los rasgos más sobresalientes de la colaboración (mediada por el conocimiento) de la UABC; así como sus principales modalidades de interacción con el entorno productivo, social y gubernamental. En lo metodológico, se trata de un estudio de caso en el que la principal técnica de recolección de evidencias es la aplicación de entrevistas semi-estructuradas a investigadores de los institutos de esta universidad). Entre los principales hallazgos se encontró que sigue existiendo ambigüedad normativa respecto a las actividades de colaboración, el desarrollo del fenómeno conlleva impactos cognitivos (beneficios) importantes en los investigadores; asimismo, la gestión y organización no reflejan esfuerzos institucionales formales por construir capacidades profesionales para la vinculación mediada por el conocimiento con el entorno, situación que no favorece la consolidación de la tercera función universitaria. ; Na rota à economia e à sociedade baseadas no conhecimento, é importante a compreensão do processo colaborativo das universidades com o seu ambiente; é por isto que este documento tem o propósito de identificar os traços mais sobressalientes da colaboração (mediado pelo conhecimento) da UABC; bem como suas principais modalidades de interação com o entorno produtivo, social e governamental. Metodologicamente, trata-se de um estudo de caso em que a principal técnica de coleta de evidências é a aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas a pesquisadores dos institutos desta universidade. Entre as principais descobertas, foi achado que ainda existe ambiguidade normativa em relação às atividades de colaboração, o desenvolvimento do fenômeno implica impactos cognitivos (benefícios) importantes em pesquisadores; além disso, a gestão e a organização não refletem esforços institucionais formais por construir habilidades profissionais para a articulação mediada pelo conhecimento com o ambiente, situação que não favorece a consolidação da terceira função universitária.

Using stock market and economic data from 1900 to 2008 from 27 separate presidential administrations in the United States (U.S.), including 15 Republican and 12 Democratic, this paper examines the relationships between the market return after each Election Day and economic performance during the presidential term. Using the theoretical framework of political economy, the authors examine how Wall Street's reaction to a presidential election acts as a predictive measure of future economic performance. The analysis shows that the after-election market movement has progressively been more accurate in predicting the future Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth but not the future unemployment rates. Given that the results show a higher correlation over time, the model appears to provide a good starting point for judging the economic potential of future presidential administrations. ; published_or_final_version

El crecimiento de las industrias culturales y creativas ha cambiado la concepción social de los productos de la actividad artística, que se están convirtiendo en importantes instrumentos de desarrollo en muchos lugares del mundo. Sin embargo, la industria nacional luce cada vez menos competitiva. El presente trabajo explora los efectos de la globalización en la industria de la historieta en México, y presenta una visión de su futuro a partir de la evidencia empírica disponible y de las opiniones de distintas partes interesadas en el sector, acerca de las circunstancias, necesidades y retos que se enfrentan, así como de lo que se debería hacer para aprovechar la tendencia de la industria internacional. Se concluye que será difícil revertir este proceso sin un cambio en las políticas públicas que lleve hacia la creación de un ambiente que permita explotar el potencial económico.
