El presente trabajo centra su atención en las construcciones militares que se desarrollaron en Camagüey durante el período colonial. A través de fuentes documentales primarias se analizan los principales exponentes de este repertorio con especial énfasis en los cuarteles. La contribución de los ingenieros militares del ejército español fue esencial para el desarrollo de estas edificaciones en territorio camagüeyano, pues resultaron los principales proyectistas de estos esfuerzos constructivos. Igualmente se evalúa la trascendencia del pensamiento de la Ilustración en estas obras y la importancia de estos hechos para la historia de la arquitectura camagüeyana. ; The present article aims to the militaries constructions developed in Camagüey during the colonial period. Through primary documental sources the main examples of this repertory are analyzed with special emphasis in the barracks. The contribution of the militaries engineers of the Spanish army was essential for the development of these buildings in Camagüey ¿s territories, because they were the main planners of these constructive efforts. Equally, this text evaluates the influence of the Enlightenment thinking in these works and the importance of these facts for the history of the Cuban architecture. ; Área de Historia del Arte

The analysis of documents that includes projected facades as well as texts written by the Municipal Architect, it is integrated with photos of the facades, which still exist, to offer a study of the conflict between the vernacular architecture, and the academic architecture. Qualified, but high-handed verdicts of a colonial officer are shown, together with the chore of local masons, in "Santa María de Puerto Príncipe", on the years fifty of the nineteenth century. The difference of the stylistic treatment, in houses and in constructions of more importance, is shown; also, some aspects of the constructive process to modernize the village; the academic formation that the military engineers possessed and how the local masons had certain skills in proportions and codes. There were, sometimes, differences between the execution of the work and its project; the project was treated as a mere step to complete, meanwhile the practice of the mason was a local protest against arbitrary codes. This constitutes a panoramic view that enriches the understanding of peculiarities of the process constructive in Camagüey, on certain moments of the xix century, with examples that allow appreciating it. ; El análisis de documentos que incluye fachadas proyectadas así como textos elaborados por el Arquitecto Municipal, se integra con la observación de edificaciones que todavía existen y se corresponden con dichos proyectos para ofrecer un estudio de la pugna entre lo vernáculo y lo académico, entre calificados, pero prepotentes dictámenes del funcionario colonialista y el quehacer del alarife local en Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe, a mediados del siglo xix. Se exponen las diferencias que hubo entre el tratamiento de los códigos estilísticos en viviendas y en edificaciones de mayor porte; aspectos del proceso constructivo para modernizar la villa; la formación académica que poseían los ingenieros militares y cómo los constructores locales tenían cierto grado de formación en proporciones y códigos. Son mostradas diferencias que hubo, a veces, entre la ejecución de la obra y el proyecto, convirtiendo este último en un mero trámite a cumplir, y a la práctica del alarife en una forma de protesta local contra esquemas que eran arbitrariamente impuestos, todo lo cual constituye una panorámica que enriquece la comprensión de peculiaridades del proceso constructivo camagüeyano, en ciertos momentos del siglo xix, con ejemplos que permiten apreciarlo.

The present article approaches the participation of the military engineers of the Spanish army in the construction of theaters in Cuba during the colonial period.Through primary documental sources examples of different Cuban colonial theaters are analyzed to all the long of the island.The engineers had a protagonistic role in the conception of these works and they were the main transporters of the European architectural tendencies of this gender of buildings. Equally, the relation- ship between the architectural characteristics of the theater and the formation of the military engineers is emphasized. Several of the examples studied still survive in different cities of Cuba. ; El presente artículo aborda la participación de los ingenieros militares del ejército español en la construcción de teatros en Cuba durante el periodo colo- nial. A través de fuentes documentales primarias se analizan ejemplos de diferentes teatros coloniales cubanos a todo lo largo de la isla. The hospital, as architectural typology, suffered an important metamorphosis in the stage of the Enlightenment. The marked and growing attention of the public administrations to this type of buildings, besides the campaigns of the hygienists, they cooperated to the creation of unpublished models; in which the pavilion structure was the most accepted one. These novel approaches on the hospital architecture will show fully in Cuba during the XIX century, where diverse experiences are verified throughout the island. The contribution of the military engineers of the Spanish army was essential for the development of these knowledge in overseas territories, because they were the main planners of these constructive efforts. The present work analyzes the events related with the building-hospital in the Cuban main cities of the nineteenth period and it evaluates the importance of these facts for the history of the cuban architecture. ; El hospital, como tipología arquitectónica, sufrió una importante metamorfosis en la etapa de la Ilustración. La marcada y creciente atención de las administraciones públicas a este tipo de edificios, junto a las campañas del pensamiento higienista de la época, coadyuvaron a la creación de modelos inéditos, dentro de los cuales la ordenación en pabellones fue la más aceptada. Estos novedosos criterios sobre la arquitectura hospitalaria se manifestaron plenamente en Cuba durante el siglo XIX, donde se constatan diversas experiencias a lo largo de la isla. La contribución de los ingenieros militares del ejército español fue esencial para el desarrollo de estos conocimientos en territorios de ultramar, pues resultaron los principales proyectistas de dichos empeños constructivos. El presente trabajo analiza los eventos relacionados con el edificio-hospital en las principales ciudades cubanas del período decimonónico y evalúa la importancia de estos hechos para la historia de la arquitectura cubana.
