The present volume contains reflections on the desirability and even the necessity of the interreligious dialogue and of dialogical theology in an increasingly globalized world. A kaleidoscope of various religions, each with its own specificity and cultural singularity, characterizes plural, open societies. In this constellation, encounters with religious others allow us to reimagine and reconfigure our religious singularity. In the process of becoming interreligious, one dynamically and creatively shapes one's particularity in communication with others. The nightmare of a homogeneous society where the other has no place at all receives its alternative in the vision of a growing community in which one's cultural and religious identity is formed, affirmed, and transformed in dialogue with others

This essay based on an interdisciplinary framework rooted in Jewish perspectives draws on insights from political science, Jewish philosophy & social psychology in proposing an initial model for peacebuilding. It suggests that (1) realist & idealist approaches as represented by Hans 1. Morgenthau & Martin Buber respectively, (2) possibilities for inclusive reading of sacred Jewish text, & (3) the results of empirical research in Arab-Israeli interreligious dialogue can serve as a multi-tiered approach to advance peacebuilding from a Jewish perspective. It combines an awareness of the dangers in the political environment along with possibilities for transformation, & the insights gathered in several years of empirical analysis of inter-religious dialogue. Levinas Faces Biblical Figures captures the drama of the encounter between a great philosopher and a text of primary importance. The book considers the ways in which Levinas's thoughts can open up the biblical text to requestioning, and how the biblical text can inform our reading of Levinas.
