The aim of the research is to examine the changes in the timing of transition to adulthood in the biographies of four Lithuanian birth cohorts. Five important trajectories— formal markers of transition to adulthood—are discussed: leaving the parental home, finishing formal education, starting first job, first partnership and giving birth to first child. The timing of these events in course of life is different for subsequent generations. Changes in timing are determined by a combination of different factors: personal preferences, socio-cultural norms and socio-political context. Based on contemporary theories of life course (Elder, Johnson, 2001; Settersten et al, 2005; Elder et al, 2006; Macmillan, 2005), quantitative research method and inter-cohort dimension are applied. Data from the project "Trajectories of Family Model and the Social Networks: Intergenerational Perspective" (Famo-Socnet) are used to provide analysis of cohort trajectories indicating persons' movement into adulthood. Data of cohorts born in 1950-1955, 1960-1965, 1970-1975, and 1980-1985, with each represented by 500 respondents, is used. Findings indicate a new, delayed and protracted, trend of transition into adulthood for the cohort (born in 1980-85) approaching adulthood in the first decade of the 21st century. Apibendrinant tyrimo rezultatai rodo naują tendenciją – uždelstą ir ilgiau trunkantį perėjimą į socialinės brandos amžių, būdingą 1980–1985 m. gimusiai kohortai, kuri į suaugystės amžiaus tarpsnį žengė XXI a. pirmoje dekadoje.

The Lithuanian consumer society is evolving, but we know little about it. On the one hand, previous research shows that it is a survival society that prioritizes functional needs, on the other hand, there are indications that a segment of consumers oriented towards self-expression is forming in Lithuania. Since consumption is both a consequence and a factor of class stratification, it is important to know whether (and how) it contributes to the strengthening of the social otherness of the group. The aim of this article is to find out whether (and how) consumption attitudes of older people differ from those of other age groups in Lithuania and what they are in the context of consumption values. In this study we analyzed the data of the representative Lithuanian population survey TNS Atlas (2012, N = 1847), divided into age groups (15–29, 30–44, 45–59, and 60–75 years). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed for the comparison of consumption preferences, post hoc criteria and Spearman coefficient were applied, and the typology of values was used for the analysis of the content of statements. The results of this research showed that consumption attitudes of the Lithuanian population are not highly differentiated according to age, the attitudes of the oldest respondents (60–75 years old) differ little from others. The entire population aged 45–75 is more characterized by a combination of conservative and altruistic-ecological attitudes than the younger ones (18–44 years old), less characterized by openness to innovation and the pursuit of social self-enhancement. Although the differences in attitudes according to age are not bright in quantitative terms, in terms of content, there is a noticeable detachment of the older population from the refined consumer community.

European Union is facing the process of demographic aging - the continuing growth in the number of the older generations (those over 65 years) will change radically the age structure of the European Union. According to the recent Eurostat population projections, the proportion of the youngest (0-14) will decrease from 16,4 percent in 2004 to 13,4 percent in 2050, respectively the percentage of working age population (15-64) will change from 67,1 to 56,7 percent and the share of the oldest (65 and over) will increase from 16,5 to 29,9 percent. The accelerating aging of the Europe population has had a tremendous and ambiguous impact on policy making and poses challenges to the economic system (labour force, consumption, investments and savings), education (development of adult education system), social care (new forms and strategies, development of long-term care) and health care systems. Collaboration at the EU level on demographic aging issues has developed in the beginning of the 1990s - the policy measures targeted to overcome (or to slow/minimize) the negative consequences of this process were integrated to the key economic, employment and social (population and health policy) areas. These means are based on active aging approach and aim to raise the average quality of lives of the elderly and to increase their participation in employment and other spheres of social life. Within the overall framework of the EU approach to aging common challenges for the health policy have been identified - to achieve access to high quality health care and long term care for all while ensuring the financial sustainability of systems.

COVID-19 pandemic lockdown measures reasonably limited the social contacts of people in many countries. It is crucial to understand the effect of such policies on people's social ties and the possible need for evidence-based public policy amendments. Therefore, this study examines 1) the prevalence of loneliness in the population aged 15+ in Lithuania in late 2021 and 2) the self-rated effect of the COVID crisis on loneliness in population groups with different levels of loneliness. It also focuses on the socio-demographic characteristics of these population groups. Data from a representative cross-sectional quantitative survey (N = 1067), carried out in November–December 2021, was used. Based on the 6-item De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, descriptive statistics analysis revealed the high prevalence (51% of a medium level of loneliness) in the Lithuanian population. One in three people (36%) declared low-level loneliness, and each seventh or eighth (13%) reported high-level loneliness. The feelings of respondents who reported a high level of loneliness were also less stable; they more often stated that their feelings of loneliness increased during the pandemic. These research findings make contributions to studies of loneliness within the context of sudden crises. They emphasise the importance of policymakers focusing on additional measures when preparing for future emergencies and providing special attention to residents who experience the highest levels of loneliness. In an ageing society facing challenges for the sustainable well-being of older adults, there has been an increasing focus on the potential of soft power in recent years. Like economic and structural, social indicators can become integral indicators of older generations' well-being. This study aims to propose a construct of the social embeddedness of older adults and its measurement tool, based on a critical review of the literature and the results of an original empirical study, to fill the knowledge gap in current statistics in the field. A critical review of the literature has disclosed that, despite many studies done, we do not have a methodological tool suitable for revealing patterns of social ties specific to older adults. The results of an empirical study of the population aged 50 and over in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia (N = 2015) showed that the social embeddedness of older people in the Baltics is composed of these domains: socialisation with descendants, nonfamily and outside home – together named as social participation; civic participation and sense of belonging. Future research should look at ways to shorten this scale to adapt it to the needs of practical use.
The article presents the main methodological issues of the survey1 aimed to analyze the learning peculiarities of adults within the lifelong learning processes in Lithuania. Some theoretical background is revealed in the article and the main definitions as well as research methods and procedures are analyzed.

While there is a tendency to study regularities in the social exclusion of older people, the distinctive feature of this article is the aim to reveal the subjective assessments of social participation of elderly people who live alone. Social exclusion/inclusion is defined in the article as a multiple concept describing (un)just social relationships. An analysis of the data from the original empirical research (27 semistructured interviews) reveals a wide range of social exclusion cases experienced at various levels. In line with the social justice scheme, the narratives of social exclusion are based on personal and interpersonal contexts (age, health, communication, autonomy), as well as the organizational, community (work) and broader social context (participation in events and politics). Folgende Sprachen sind enthalten: Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch, Spanisch, Italienisch, Polnisch, Portugiesisch, Ungarisch, Rumänisch, Schwedisch, Litauisch, Türkisch, Slowenisch, Bosnisch-Herzegowinisch, Ukrainisch, Russisch, Chinesisch. Based on an original text in German, the compendium presents and discusses the key concepts of intergenerational research in a systematic way. Its approach is characterized by the assumption that the forms of intergenerational relationships in families and kinship, institutions and communities is playing a fundamental role in the construction of individual and collective identities, and therefore in the development of societies. A cross-cultural, comparative approach accounting for linguistic diversity provides a promising avenue for theoretical, empirical and practical work in this currently crucially field for the social sciences, humanities and social policy. The Edition '17 includes 17 languages: German, French, English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Rumanian, Swedish, Lithuanian, Turkish, Slovenian, Bosnian-Herzegovinian, Ukrainian, Russian and Chinese. The compendium can be used as a tool for inter- and intracultural comparisons. Its layout facilitates the comparison between versions, which can be downloaded individually and in different combinations. The project has been financially supported by the cluster of excellence 'Cultural Foundation of Integration' of the University of Konstanz, Germany.
