"Britain faces challenges that weren't imaginable thirty years ago, challenges which charities, rooted as they are in community action and the public good, should be ideally suited to tackle. But the charity sector seems paralysed. Even after a decade of cuts and immense social and environmental disruption charities are still fighting hard to maintain business as usual. To develop new responses to our changing world the charity sector desperately needs to reinvent itself, radically re-engaging with communities and developing powerful and scalable responses to the challenges facing the UK in the coming decades. What are the ties that bind charities, rendering them unable to re-invent themselves and to re-imagine their services, even when they face existential crises? This book explores how charities in the UK really operate, as seen through the eyes of people who work in and with charities, and investigates what holds charities back from change. AbstractThe practice of critically reflexive feminist autoethnography—or connecting one's personal experiences and beliefs to professional and political processes—can be a challenging and often invisible process. Nonetheless, it is a method worthy of engagement, given the impact one's positionality often has on one's scholarship. In this article, I reflect on how I understand myself as an intersectional Black, bisexual woman. Furthermore, I discuss the ways in which the personal relates to my professional and political academic life. In making broader connections to larger societal forces, I discuss how I came to study diverse individuals and families with intersecting identities and outline my struggles with my own academic growth and scholastic improvement. I also unpack the uncertainties I have faced in attempting to find my place in academia. Finally, for other intersectional scholars, I offer some suggestions for self‐reflection on research and practice within the academy.

From 2016 to 2019, the Swedish Institute circulated a photo exhibition entitled'Swedish Dads' to approximately 50 countries where it was seen by tens of thousandsof people. This state-funded and state-sanctioned exhibition was intended torepresent the Swedish state in the international arena. The exhibition was adaptedbased on the Swedish Dads photobook produced by Swedish photographer, JohanBävman. The question is what happens when an artistic photobook is transformedinto a narrative about Swedish fatherhood and how this narrative changes as itcomes to represent the Swedish state in the international arena.The aim of this article is to contribute interdisciplinary knowledge in termsof how particular representations of fatherhood are constructed and used inthe marketing of certain norms and values in the international arena. Thisinterdisciplinary approach makes it possible to address broader kinds of questionsand to extend knowledge beyond disciplinary boundaries (Strang and McLeish2015). To do this, I examine how representations of what I call 'everyday fatherhood'are used to brand the Swedish nation as 'exceptional'. Thematic analysis and visualdiscourse analysis were combined in analyzing the material, which consisted ofthe photographs and texts used in the Swedish Dads photobook and the SwedishDads exhibition, as well as key informant interviews.The analysis highlights that while the Swedish Dads photobook emphasizedthat Swedish Dads are not so special, the Swedish Dads exhibition conveyed theopposite message, i.e., that Swedish Dads – and by extension, the Swedish state –are in fact exceptional. The aim of this article is to explore how the Swedish ideal of 'progressive fatherhood' is represented in the context of a photo competition and exhibition organised by the Swedish Embassy in postcolonial Zimbabwe. Drawing on Rose's (2016) method of visual discourse analysis (VDA), the article examines how Zimbabwean fathers are represented as being progressive through both image and text, and the extent to which these representations could be seen to challenge or 'mimic' (Bhabha, 1984) the Swedish ideal of 'progressive fatherhood'. While some of these representations reproduced certain binaries, they also presented the kind of ambivalent, 'postfeminist' relationship with gender equality that has been identified in other contexts. Overall, these representations were found to go beyond colonial mimicry by challenging and extending the Swedish ideal of 'progressive fatherhood' beyond the context of the middle-class, nuclear family.

Purpose
Social impact research remains in its infancy. The purpose of the paper is to build on Keeling and Marshall's (2022) "Call for impact" paper and develop a comprehensive social impact pathway (SIP) framework. The aim is to encourage marketing researchers, non-profits and corporations to pursue impactful work that is valued, planned, monitored and evaluated.

Design/methodology/approach
The conceptual paper explores the complexities of estimating social impact drawing from a range of illustrative cases.

Findings
The paper identifies a lack of clarity in the understanding and application of impact and presents a pathway aimed at increasing focus on social impact across future work to deliver the net-positive changes that are needed to reverse biodiversity decline, climate change and social and health inequalities that continue to be persist and be experienced by so many planet wide.

Research limitations/implications
This paper contributes a pathway forward to encourage and support increased utilisation of the framework in future marketing research.

Practical implications
Mapping and measuring SIPs are concerted efforts directing understanding towards identifying the activities that are contributing to the delivery of outputs that can achieve intended outcomes. The measurement of impact directs investment towards activities that ensure net-positive gains are achieved.

Social implications
Ever growing social inequities, health disparities, loss of biodiversity and environmental degradation occur when practices are left unchecked. A focus on impact avoids greenwashing practices, ensuring that an understanding of what has changed because of the work is transparently reported.

Originality/value
This paper aims to encourage marketing researchers to engage in social change projects, rather than solely disseminating academic findings. Emphasising the importance of an outside-in approach, this paper highlights the necessity of showcasing accumulated outcomes to demonstrate impact.

While research demonstrates that family support is
essential for doctoral students, research detailing institutional efforts to involve
families is limited. We developed the GAIN Scholars program, consisting of two
3-week-long boot camps for incoming first-generation and historically marginalized
doctoral students. Quantitative data were collected from 38 doctoral students in the
GAIN Scholars program (n = 22) and the control (n = 16). One key component of this
program was family support for doctoral students. Family members (n = 15) were invited
to the opening ceremony, a day of programming, and online activities. Pre- and post-test
measures indicate participants had a greater ability to identify resources, a greater
ability to identify important life values as they impact resource identification
decision-making, and a greater ability to identify complex environments and means for
situational adaption, suggesting the program increased doctoral students' skills related
to navigating environments, resources, and decision-making. Qualitative findings from
doctoral students and their family members offered praise for the program and
appreciation for the support opportunities. These results indicate that programs such as
this—that foster connections among graduate students and their families—can be
potentially beneficial in helping graduate students not only stay but thrive in their
programs.

AbstractMany Americans believe that a breakdown in the "traditional" two‐married‐parent family and the rise in single‐parent families are responsible for persistent family inequality. The general argument is that children do best when they are raised by both biological parents. Evidence increasingly calls into question conventional wisdom about the universal benefits of the two‐parent family, yet mainstream approaches to studying family structure continue to reinforce oversimplistic interpretations of the impact of family structure on well‐being. In this article, we reconsider long‐standing assumptions about the superiority of the heteropatriarchal two‐married‐parent family using historical and contemporary evidence to offset the stagnant theorizing in the study of family structure. We argue that, in pursuit of better science, family researchers must commit to theoretical approaches that move us beyond conventional perspectives of families toward critical perspectives that guide more nuanced, holistic, and contextualized analyses of how family structure actually operates in people's lives.

A single umbilical artery (SUA) was identified in 1.5% of twin pregnancies. The presence of a SUA in a twin pregnancy was associated with a 50% incidence of fetal anomalies, many of them complex and severe. The embryology and pathophysiological mechanisms associated with a SUA are reviewed. Aneuploidy is relatively common and should be considered, particularly in the presence of associated anomalies. Fetal growth restriction is frequent and preterm delivery is common.

AbstractObjectiveIdentify the role(s) and support(s), if any, that family members provide to first‐generation and historically marginalized doctoral students, including strengths and challenges of this support.BackgroundNonfinancial family support is important for the success and retention of first‐generation and historically marginalized graduate students. More empirical studies of the role(s) and support of family members of these doctoral students are needed.MethodDuring an intervention designed for first‐generation and historically marginalized doctoral students and their families, we conducted four focus groups with doctoral students (n = 22) and three focus groups with the family members they chose to accompany them (n = 15). Transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis.ResultsTwo themes emerged from the data: support and connection. In addition to providing distinct types of support, families play both supportive and connective roles. There are challenges to family roles and support in areas such as communication, doctoral student stress, and different ways that family members and doctoral students think about and approach life.ConclusionThe study provided key insights to understanding the roles and support of family of doctoral students; more efforts are needed across graduate schools in the United States.ImplicationsFamily science faculty and graduate schools may collaborate to provide meaningful interventions for graduate students and their families for the goal of promoting graduate student retention and success.
