Letter from Samuel Mitchill to Alden Partridge, 25 September 1817
Mitchill writes to Alden Partridge that he had previously expressed his ideas on military education to Governor Nicholas of Virginia; does not believe one national academy sufficient for the adequate training of militia; young men should not be given bounties for studying military science; received his "barometrical altitudes" of Ascutney, etc., and found them highly interesting and could he present them to a magazine for publication? The final page is a printed letter from the Historical Society of New York, possibly a circular. ; Transcription by Joseph Byrne. Transcriptions may be subject to error.
