The article discusses the role of illegal drug trafficking in Pakistani-Afghan relations. The author explores the emergence and development of drug production in the zone of Pashtun tribes on the Afghan-Pakistani border. Attention is also paid to drug production in Pakistan in the 1980s. In the 21st century Pakistan is a part of two Afghan drug-trafficking routes (the Balkan Route and the Southern Route), allowing illegal drug shipments to Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia and Oceania, as well as to North America.

The article examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on afghan drug business in 2020. Author also highlights main changes that have occurred in international drug business for the better understanding situation in Afghanistan. The author also gives a forecast of Afghan drug business development for several years ahead.
