—The aim of this study is to determine the budgetary slack in the preparation of the target and identify the strategy being made by the Provincial Government of East Java in the optimizing retribution extension of IMTA. The informants used in this study are a levies collector and compulsory levies. The informants are derived from the levy collectors, among others treasurer reception, head of section for employment, staff IMTA Integrated Licensing Service (P2T), and the head of the Supervisory Norma Work. The informants from compulsory levies are based on the recommendation of staff from IMTA P2T.The results from this study indicated that the Chief Disnakertransduk Province of East Java, is an agency of the Governor of East Java Province in the public sector, which has created a budgetary slack in setting targets on IMTA levy extension. In optimization strategy levies extension, IMTA was done by issuing the Regional Regulation No. 15 in 2013. The intensification was done by expanding the revenue base, strengthening the collection process, improve supervision, increase efficiency and reduce the cost of collection and doing good planning. © 2019, Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the Non Performing Financing (NPF) Sharia banking in Indonesia.The factors examined are Economic Performance (EK), Total Financing (FIN), Financing Rate (FR), Dummy Global Financial Crisis (D07) and Inflation Rate (INF).The method used is Cointegration Test.The data used are monthly data.The study time period is from January 2003 to March 2013. Based on the results of statistical analysis it show that each of independent variables, is significantly influence the growth of NPF (non-performing financing) Sharia banking in Indonesia.Results of the study give the implication that the Islamic banking should be correctly applying the precautionary and prudential principles, in providing financing to customers to avoid high NPF in Islamic banking. And the Government as the highest authority of the banking institution, expected to support the financing of Islamic banking sector of the economy by establishing the independent agency, which helped the bank to assess the eligibility of prospective business who proposed financing on Islamic banking

This study examines the relationship between firm-level political connections and stock price crash risk in Indonesia. It employs the difference-in-difference design to deal with the self-selection bias issue regarding the choice of the firms to become a politically connected firm. We use the sudden resignation of the former President of Indonesia, Suharto, to show that politically connected firms are associated with lower stock price crash risk and that the risk for these politically connected firms increased after Suharto resigned. Furthermore, we found evidence that these negative associations are more pronounced in firms with more complex firm structures.

Pilihan peran ulama' bisa dihubungkandengan perspektif tentang relasi agama dan politik. Ada tiga perspektif tentang hubungan antara agama dengan politik, yaitu: menyatukan keduanya (integralistik), memisahkan antara keduanya (sekularistik), dan menjadikan agama sebagai landasanmoral etik untuk politik (substansialistik).Di dalam pola relasi integralistikdan substansialistik, mudahdipahami bahwa agama harus ditransformasikan ke dalam kebijakan-kebijakan politik yang dibuat. Namun, bukan berarti bahwa dalam negara yang menggunakan pola relasi yang sekularistik, agama tidak bisa ditransformasikan. Tulisan akan menguraikan ketiga perspektif relasi agama dan politik. This study examines the relationship between politically connected independent commissioners and independent directors regarding the cost of debt. The sample is all companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2010–2017 period, totaling 327 companies with a total data value of 1722 firm-year observations. We used the ordinary least squares regression model (OLS) and the Heckman 2SLS method to solve the endogeneity problem. We found that politically connected independent commissioners and politically connected independent directors negatively correlate with the cost of debt. These results indicate the importance of politically connected independent commissioners and independent directors in managing companies, especially in obtaining loans with low interest rates. In addition, our results are robust due to the use of the Heckman 2SLS test. Therefore, this research can contribute to the development of the literature related to corporate governance and political connections in public companies, so that politically connected independent commissioners and independent directors have an essential role in decision-making in companies.

This study investigates the differences between the SOEs and non-SOEs financial performance and how the presidential election affects their performance. This study uses 3,716 firm-year observations for firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2001 to 2014 as the final sample and uses regression to test the hypotheses. In Indonesia, on average, about 25 parties involved in the presidential election in the past three elections. Due to the complexity of the data collection, this study omits the effect of the unique political parties that also could affect the performance of SOE. This study finds that SOEs outperform financial performance of non-SOEs over the sample periods. Interestingly, this study also finds that the excellent financial performance of SOEs disappears around the election period. It indicates that being a board member of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) is a political position rather than a professional position. For policymakers, these results indicate that election periods influence (reduce) the financial performance of SOEs in Indonesia. This study enhances our understanding of how presidential elections affect the performance of SOEs in Indonesia.

Using ordinary least square (OLS) regression, the results shows that firms without family ownership (non-family firms) have better performance than firms with family ownership (family firms) in Indonesia. Furthermore, the findings also show that the performance of family firms significantly improve when the firms are affiliated with political connections. Our findings imply that establishing political connections in family firms will increase the performance of the firms

This study investigates the relationship between firms with family ownership and managerial short-termism and how political connections affect this relationship. The final sample of this study is 959 firms year observations of non-financial firms listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) between year 2014 to 2016. We find that firms with lower family ownership are more likely to be engaged in short-termism. With the increase of family ownership, family firms better preserve its future well-being and, therefore, are freed from managerial short-termism. Interestingly, we find that political connections moderating the family firms to become short-termism regardless the level of family ownership. These findings imply that the level of family ownership affect the firms's decision on research and development and political connections are able to make family firms to be more short-termism. © General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania.

Purpose The study aims to examine the military-connected firms' risk preference, specifically in the innovation intensity level context. The authors argue that firms with military-experienced top management have conservative and risk-averse behavior, influencing the innovation investment policy. Design/methodology/approach The authors use nonfinancial Indonesian-listed firms from 2010 to 2018 amounted to 2,504 firm-year observations. Findings The authors document a negative relationship between military connection with both innovation activities and outputs. The additional analysis documents that risk-preferences of military-connected firms will be drastically changed when the industry has a high digital level, which confirms that risk-averse military-experienced management is less dominant with adaptation skill. The authors also identify that veterans did not need a long tenure to influence firms' innovation investment policy. Lastly, the result is robust due to various endogeneity tests employed. Originality/value This study further examines military-connected firms' technological innovation compared to prior studies and enriches the related literature.

Research aims: This study examines the relationship between political connections and family ownership toward CSR activities disclosure.Design/Methodology/Approach: This study employed 624 Indonesian public companies on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) list for 2010-2018. The researchers used OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regression by considering the fixed effect diversity of industry, year, and type of GRI to examine the relationship between political connections and family ownership on CSR disclosure.Research Findings: This study discovered that companies with political connections disclosed more CSR activities because they desired to bind themselves with the government, instruments of legacy, and social motivation. However, family firms were not found to have a significant relationship with CSR disclosure. In addition, the strong family ownership in the firm impacted the reduced strength of political connections, thereby reducing the company's CSR activities disclosure. Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study is interesting because the researchers combined the issue of the politically connected board and family firms, which are frequently found in the context of Indonesian companies. The researchers expect this study to enhance corporate board characteristics and CSR disclosure literature. Practically, the researchers expect this study could provide useful information for investors to make investment decisions. Furthermore, this study provides insight for regulators, who need a view of how political connections and family companies exist in responding to the regulations they set. Therefore, the existing regulations can be improved. Yet, this study was limited to the proxy of political connection based on local regulation of politically exposed person (PEP).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tentang apa faktor-faktor kekalahan disabilitas netra calon anggota DPR RI 'Saharudin Daming' dalam Pemilu 2014. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui langkah-langkah apa yang telah dilakukan oleh Disabilitas Netra 'Saharudin Daming' pada kampanye Pemilu 2014. Menguraikan faktor-faktor kekalahan Disabilitas Netra 'Saharudin Daming' dalam Pemilu 2014. Dengan menggunakan teori-teori relevan yakni Demokrasi, Pemilu dan Disabilitas. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan analisis juga pembahasan atas semua temuan dan data yang dikumpulkan menunjukkan bahwa faktor- faktor kekalahan Disabilitas Netra calon anggota DPR RI 'Saharudin Daming' dalam Pemilu 2014 Pertama, Langkah-langkah dilakukan oleh Disabilitas Netra Saharudin Daming pada kampanye Pemilu 2014 yakni langkah-langkah Internal Partai PBB diantaranya merekrut caleg yang memiliki elektabilitas tinggi, mengadakan pendidikan politik, penetapan dapil, promosi nomor urut. Langkah-Langkah eksternal yang dilakukan oleh Saharudin Daming diantaranya kampanye langsung, kondisi psikologis dan jaringan keluarga. Faktor-Faktor Kekalahan Disabilitas Netra Saharudin Daming dalam Pemilu 2014. Faktor internal yakni konsolidasi caleg, kurang persiapan caleg, dan pengalaman dalam politik praktis.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between political connections and overinvestment in Indonesia as a democratic, multi-party and developing country. This study uses sample of 1,044 and 543 firm-year observations from listed firms on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2017. A two-stage model is used to address overinvestment, which used two different measurements, then continued by ordinary least square regression to establish the main analysis result. This study finds that political connection is negatively associated with overinvestment in Indonesia. We also find that this negative association is increasing due to the existence of governance mechanism from both external and internal parties of the firm. Our results indicate that the significant negative associations between political connections with overinvestment, which later is strengthen by governance mechanism might be caused by several differences in institutional setting and/or political connections benefits between the previous research in China and with the place where this research is taken. This paper could give insights in decision-making for stakeholders to anticipate certain harmful issues to the companies that might be occurred by their politically connected top management like directors and commissioners.
