; The article analyses the impact the current economic crisis is having on Spanish trade unions and the challenges, threats and opportunities it poses for them. We highlight the ambivalent implications for the unions of the effects the crisis is having on the labour market, the welfare state, governance and political representation. We argue that the deterioration of the labour market generates social unrest that, potentially, the unions can channel, but that it also intensifies and aggravates the difficulties facing trade unions in representing the unemployed and non-typical workers. Reduced protection and coverage from the welfare state also contributes to this social unrest, but it can lower public confidence in the efficiency of trade union action. The crisis of governance calls into question the social and political role played by the main trade unions and leaves them without one of their traditional sources of legitimacy, namely social dialogue. Finally, the crisis of the system of political representation affects trade unions by weakening social trust in them. In this context, the challenge facing the unions is to adapt their actions to the new circumstances so workers continue to regard them as useful and efficient defenders of their interests.

The Financial Participation has been spreading through the policy of the European Union to encourage the development of private pension plans. The purpose is to relieve pressure on public pension expenditure. Financial participation is an expression of Industrial Democracy, led by unions in central and Northern Europe. But in recent years it has been extended as part of the human resources policy of the company to encourage, motivate and retain qualified employment. The EU policy is intended that financial participation is one of the bases for sustaining a new model of occupational well-being negotiated. Our thesis is that this model does not extend to Spain given the abundance of small businesses and the weakness of trade unionism and collective bargaining in them. But participation in benefits could be required to fund the sustainability of pensions.

; The recent economic crisis has brought an unprecedented deterioration in labour market conditions in many European countries. This may have provided new stimulus for the extension of anti-immigrant attitudes amongst population, especially amongst those in the lower segments of labour markets. In this paper we analyze the attitudes of European citizens towards immigration and migrant workers. In particular, we try to understand what role plays perceived socio-economic uncertainty in order to explain attitudes towards immigration. Comparing data of the 2002, 2008 y 2010 waves of European Social Survey for sixteen European countries, the paper shows no remarkable change in the relative importance of objective and subjective socio-economic variables between the period of growth and recession. Moreover, logistic analysis consistently shows political-ideology to be a strong predictor of attitudes. Finally, multiple correspondence analyses allowed us to classify the countries surveyed according to their attitudes towards immigration.

Traditional approaches in the wide field of employment relations focused on a small and clearly delineated set of actors, such as trade unions and employers' organizations, operating within the constraints given by formal, nationally confined institutions. It is becoming increasingly clear that traditional approaches are insufficiently able to account for employment relations processes and outcomes in a world wherein formal institutions are being rapidly transformed and partially dissolved, national boundaries become porous, and the sheer number of actors involved is increasing substantially. A shift in perspective is necessary, past the nationally bounded actor-institution dichotomy, towards an understanding of employment relations as fundamentally mediated by complex and emergent networks that connect a multitude of actors within and between countries. This volume provides a seminal starting point for such a paradigm shift by applying theories and methodologies from social network analysis to the study of employment relations. It develops a theoretical toolkit of mechanisms that operate within networks and shape employment relations processes and outcomes, such as wages, labour market policies and labour conflicts. It brings together insights from various projects that investigate the structure, functioning and impact of networks in employment relations through quantitative and qualitative methods. It will be of particular interest to students and scholars of employment relations across business and management, economics, political science, and sociology disciplines, as well as those interested in social networks. Managers, trade unions, employers' organizations and state authorities at national and international levels will find it helpful in understanding how networks shape their world.
In the second half of the 20th century, Latin American poetry has had to deal with representing the phenomenon of forced disappearance in its various poetic productions. Some of those have incubated in the Central American civil wars, the dictatorial regimes of the Southern Cone and even in countries with supposed democratic stability such as Mexico and Colombia. Memorial de Ayotzinapa (2016), by the Mexican poet Mario Bojórquez, and Carta de las mujeres de este país (2019), by the Colombian poet and activist Fredy Yezzed, experiment with the discursive forms of the long poem and the letter poem, respectively, to construct collective memories around a phenomenon that continues to take lives to this day. Bojórquez's text is concerned with constructing a testimony, apparently in situ, of the disappearance of the forty-three Mexican teacher trainees; Yezzed's work, for its part, refrains from referring to a specific event or place in order to provide a more complete testimony of the Colombian armed conflict, nearly seventy years old. The article analyzes the forms of the text, the subjects and their spaces of enunciation, as well as the memory strategies that are seen in both works. Thus, the testimonial status of poetry is confirmed, sometimes overshadowed by genres such as the novel and the short story.

Variables relating to attitudes and beliefs towards politics and sociodemographic variables are commonplace in studies on political participation. We take these two traditions in order to study digital political participation. However, rather than doing so in order to explain activism, which is usually the case, we seek to explain a specific type of inequality in the information and knowledge society: the political digital divide. Given that digital political participation takes place through a medium that is not universally used, namely the Internet, it is important to know which citizens are in a position to opt for the advantages the political use of this medium represents. Studies exist analysing the way in which the political digital divide appears in terms of sociodemographic and attitudinal variables. Here, however, we try to present a model that helps us understand how these two groups of variables relate in terms of the relationship to digital political participation. The aim is to offer a fuller perspective of the sources of digital political inequalities.

Since the early 1990's, Spain has received very substantial flows of immigration. These flows are characterised by the great diversity of the immigrants' origin, the massive trend and the novelty of the phenomenon. In sum, that means that Spanish society has become in the space of a very few years a multiethnical society. This paper explores the social image of foreign migrants in Spain based on the outcome of a national survey produced in December 2005 by the Institute for Advanced Social Studies (IESA) of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research and commissioned by the Secretary of Immigration and Emigration of the Ministry of Labour and Social Issues. In accordance with the theories of the "new racism" that suggest that opinions and attitudes against immigration represent a new form of the expression of racism and xenophobia, this paper wants to contribute to the debate about the nature and the factors that determine prejudice, discrimination and segregation in the context of the rising success of populist political parties in Europe. The data of the survey throws light upon two main dimensions which explain the perception of the immigrants in the case of Spain: the socio-economic and the cultural one. According to the public perception of immigrants, three main trends can be identified amongst the majority population: the utilitarian, the differencialist and the pluralist. The utilitarian type reflects an instrumental and economic conception of migration. Immigrants are perceived mainly as a work force necessary for the growth of the Spanish economy. On the other hand, for the differencialist type cultural, religious and ideological differences amongst immigrants and the national population represent the main factors that conforms the negative perception of immigrants. For the pluralist group, generally prevails a tolerant perception of the immigrants. Each of these "ideal types" can be associated with a specific socio-demographic profile. Moreover, as the analysis shows, each profile takes different positions on the following issues: rights concessions to immigrants, immigration policy and social distance to immigrants. ; IESA/CSIC Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia of the National Office for the Integration of Immigrants through the Department of Immigration and Emigration of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs ; Peer reviewed

Learning and training contracts facilitate the transition to the labour market. But for the majorityof young people, the labour trajectories that derive from them are discontinuous and unstructured. Such contracts, as forms of work-based learning, do not positively influence on the trajectories of young people, as theoretically would have to be expected.
