Devant la science soviétique et russe, une question a souvent été posée : comment un système aussi mal organisé peut-il produire des résultats aussi importants ? Cette interrogation souligne les préjugés de la mentalité occidentale. Seule une science organisée à l'occidentale pourrait produire de bons résultats ; ceux-ci, pour leur part, doivent être quantitativement appréciables, autrement dit mesurables en termes de publications, de découvertes, de brevets ou, à la limite, en des indices aussi tautologiques que le nombre de prix Nobel.

Alessandro Mongiu, Les institutions scientifiques soviétiques à l'heure de la perestrojka.
L'article présente la situation des institutions scientifiques soviétiques par le biais des représentations que l'on a développées à l'heure de la perestrojka. Le bouleversement des cadres théoriques provoque la dislocation des faits présentés comme caractéristiques de l'état de la science. Une image de crise s'est imposée, comme étant une évidence. Les éléments de cette image sont les problèmes qui s'imposent au débat, et ils constituent les enjeux des tentatives de réformes entreprises.
