Parody (etymologically a voice alongside another voice) involves imitation, but what is crucial is the co-presence of these two voices, the parodying and the parodied. It is the dialogue between two enunciative spheres, two utterances, hence its preeminent position in the Bakhtinian concept of dialogism. The two points of view, set against each other dialogically, represent two utterances, speakers, styles, languages, and axiological systems, even if they issue from a single speaker. As a reflexive device and critical manipulation of canonized forms, parody has often been considered as the epitome of postmodernism in European and North American literature and artistic expression. The paper aims to show that, in Hindi theatre, parody is politically significant. The article focuses on Bhartendu Hariścandra (1850—1885) and Habīb Tanvīr (1923—2009). It argues that the use of the quotes of Nazīr Akbarābādīin Tanvīr's most famous play Āgrā Bāzār, a poet who himself parodies the traditional poetical canons, enhances a literary reflexivity that is one of the deepest creative devices of Indian culture.

Introduced by the British colonization and today the official language of the Indian Nation in association with Hindi, English is spoken as a second language by a minority of the educated population of 8 to 11% according to current estimations. A chance for India to converse with the world cultures, in compensation for centuries of domination, or conversely an inherited alienating burden still preventing this conversation from being on equal terms? The paper will dwell on such issues, after a factual evaluation of the role of English in the Indian pluralism, and a study of the consequences of its historical infiltration in the whole system of the State. ; Introduit par la colonisation britannique et aujourd'hui langue officielle de l'Union Indienne avec le hindi, l'anglais est parlé comme langue seconde par une minorité de la population éduiquée qui ne dépasse pas 10%. Montaut), have been published during the last twenty years of the 20th century and constitute an exploration of the ambivalence of the Indian consciousness today. Although some are historically dated, and allude to a state of affairs previous to the end of the cold war, where globalization was only a vague hypothesis, remains acutely relevant for the 21st century India, by its complex elaboration on the individual and social consciousness altered first by colonisation then by modernization in India. Such analyses found a deep echo in the work of environmentalists (Vandana Shiva, Anupam Mishra), economists (Amartya Sen), or political scientists (Nandakishor Acharya) as well as among artists (Arundhati Roy). Except for "Truth in Art" and "Indian Fiction and Colonial Reality", translated from English, they are translated from Hindi. They summarize the thought of the author on history and myth, on art and the consciousness of time, and they locate Indian literature within this perspective. ; Les essais de Nirmal Verma dont sont présentés des extraits traduits ont été publiés entre 1986 et 1995, et représentent une réflexion sur l'ambivalence de la conscience indienne aujourd'hui.
