En este artículo se presenta una definición de psicología crítica señalando los aspectos que le otorgan esta condición. La presencia de esas características en la psicología social latinoamericana es analizada por medio de ejemplos tomados de la producción contemporánea en esa parte del continente (desde finales de los ochenta hasta la década actual). Específicamente, se analizan trabajos de psicología social comunitaria y psicología política que abordan la identidad, el poder y su forma de usarlo, la exclusión y la legitimidad social de ambas áreas de investigación y acción, así como el efecto de la crítica y la autocrítica en la construcción de teoría. También se discuten aspectos relacionados con la complejidad y las diferentes maneras de enfocar los problemas psicosociales.

The origins and development of the psychology of liberation are described, detailing the intellectual and political context in which the concept of liberation emerged in Latin American social sciences. Its constitution as a mode of doing psychology, and the founding ideas of Ignacio Martin Baró, its pioneer, are analyzed. Primary concepts such as problematization, de‐ideologization, and de‐alienation are discussed, and I explain how they are integrated into a central process characterized as conscientization. The role of relatedness as an epistemological base for knowledge construction and liberation is highlighted. The dynamics in which these processes interact in order to facilitate and catalyze the transformation of negative living conditions through participatory action and reflection, to empower people so they become conscious citizens, and to strengthening civil society and democracy is also discussed. I argue that the ethical, critical, and political character of the liberating actions respond for the participatory, reflexive, and transformative conception of this form of psychology.

Se plantea una revisión de la concepción paradigmática tripartita de la psicología (tres dimensiones: ontológica, epistemológica y metodológica), dominante en el campo a partir de la propuesta de Lincoln y Guba (1985), la cual es contrastada con experiencias provenientes de la praxis (acción e investigación que producen teoría). En particular se presenta una estructura paradigmática de cinco dimensiones: ontología, epistemología, metodología, ética y política y se analiza la propuesta ontológica que plantea una reconceptualización del Ser y de la Relación, discutiendo las dimensiones ética y política, desde una perspectiva crítica. ; A revision of the paradigmatic structure attributed to Psychology is presented, arguing the insufficiency of the dominant conception proposed by Lincoln & Guba (1985). As that conception limits the paradigmatic dimensions to three domains: ontology, epistemology and, methodology; two other are added: ethics and politics. These new dimensions are defined, and discussed from a critical perspective. An ontological proposal based on a conception of the Being and the relation is analysed and illustrated with experiences coming from praxis (action and research producing theory).

En este artículo, la autora expone el surgimiento, el desarrollo y la influencia de un modo de construir e interpretar la realidad para transformarla, que si bien se nutre de otras corrientes, pretende generar una respuesta propia, que se inserte en el desarrollo de un paradigma que presenta características específicas en América Latina. Tal desarrollo supone una ontología o concepción del ser; una epistemología, o modo preferente de relación entre el sujeto cognoscente y el objeto conocido; una metodología, es decir, las vías para construir ese conocimiento; una posición ética, en cuanto supone una peculiar relación con el otro y una posición política, puesto que dichas dimensiones afectan a la sociedad y la ciudadanía.

This edited volume summarizes and expands upon the important work of a research group, Social Bonds and Cultures of Peace, that accompanies and supports victims of socio-political violence in Columbia. Grounding the volume is an introductory overview of Colombian political violence in the recent past, as well as an exploration of the role of peace psychology in conflict situations and in the broader content of the field of psychology. The following chapters, written by active peace psychologists and researchers based in Colombia, focus on ongoing violence in the Colombian context, a complex and dynamic area in which various groups (drug traffickers, national armed forces, guerrilla fighters, self-defence groups) have been engaged in organized violence for more than 60 years. Psychosocial Approaches to Peace-Building in Colombia explores the psychological dynamics of both the victims and perpetrators of conflict. Central to the volume is the notion of "accompanying" those who have been victims of violence, listening to them, engaging them in dialogue, and working together to strengthen the resources of victims. The recovery of individual and collective memories of atrocities is discussed as an important avenue for healing and for the empowerment of individuals and groups. The solidarity among victims creates opportunities at the grassroots level to pursue truth, reveal perpetrators of violence, seek public acknowledgment and attain social justice. For perpetrators of violence and members of armed groups, the book addresses a host of psychosocial issues related to disarming, demobilizing and reintegrating former combatants, including children, into society. Throughout the book, in the spirit of peace psychology, the researchers are engaged in a form of praxis that is cognizant of the wider geohistorical context within which victims and perpetrators are embedded and the dialectical relationship between micro and macro-level events and change.
