The doctrine of Conscience occupies a central place in the life and works of John Henry Newman. It is a doctrine which constantly appears in his writings, which had already been exposed in nuce in his Anglican years, and which gradually undergoes a harmonious and enriching development, free from contradictions and ruptures. Conscience, for Newman, is that interior and irreducible sense which the human spirit possesses in order to capture ethical and religious values. It manifests itself in practical judgments which either order or prohibit. What Newman tells us about Conscience is a result of his own personal meditation concerning this point; it is therefore a teaching that has been matured over a large number of years, and so is rich in interior lucidity, profoundness and docility. It is a doctrine which was shaped with the help of God, who has to be sought and heralded by the same. 80th subjectivity and transcendence are to be found in man's Conscience. This is a fact that always will be recognized by all Christians and, indeed, all men of good will. In spite of the refraction which it undergoes upon entering into the interior and intimate domain of every individual, Natural Law informs the individual Conscience surrounding the law and manners of God. Newman personalism accuses a strong theocentrical character. He points out, forcefully, the fact that God and man's Conscience are not competitors; on the contrary, the true life of the Conscience can be preserved by God only. Newman, an excellent interpreter of Occidental sensibility, does not reject a true Christian vis ion of God, man, and the world. «Freedom of Conscience» and -free examination. in fact claim a riqht to do without Conscience. They constitute the battle cry of a radical anthropological postulate which is full of fatal consequences. Newman's doctrine, on the other hand, can be coordinated with that of any private judgment that maintains a wide margin of legitimate and necessary exercise with regard to the religious order. Newman disqualifies freedom of examination and reccommends, rather, personal activities and initiatives which seek truth and are always ready to build, with the help of God, the seeker's own personal destiny. Conscience is not, then, a screen placed between God and personal reality. It is called upon to unite the divine and human realms and not to separate these two domains. It is therefore a vehicle of Grace, not a pretext to resist God. Newman has anticipated many topics, making him a pioneer with regard to the sensibility which is manifested in sorne aspects of Vatican Council 11. He formulated, at the same time, sorne principies that help us understand the functions of the Magisterium of the Church whenever it interprets Natural Law. He puts forth, in a word, solid reasons in favour of a dialogue between the Church and Christians on the one hand, and civil legislation on the other, with reference to topics such as the defense of life, indiividual rights, religion, and the marriage bond.
--- ABSTRAeT The «Canones Hibernenses», of the 8th century, ls one of the rare canonical collections which dedicates a complete book -of 19 chapters- to those Christians who fulfill a magisterial activity in the Church. The authors of the Collection contemplate the figure of the Doctor, who continues the catechetical function of the ancient Didascalos in the heart of the Christian community, from the point of view of the Ailgustinian ideal; that is to say, an ideal which defends the role of study and of culture -both religious and profane- as being necessary elements for gaining a deeper knowledge and development of the faith. On the other hand, the collection bears witness to a particular period and historical situation in which the Church asks the cultured Christians, through the .voice of those responsible for their discipline and government, to exercise self-control and prudent discretion in their studious investigation of the deposit of faith and in their task of teaching the Christian faithful. Ireland ls thus shown to be, not only the Island of Saints; lt isalso a paradlse for the learned, whose formative role with regard to the rest of the faithful, is left to a large extent to their own prudent judgement, on account of the actual state of affairs and the requirements of an ecclesiastical-religious sociology.
Weak women's involvement in politics is accounted for by male domination which taints a host of psychosocial processes and hinders women's leadership in male contexts. In addition, it is argued that male typification of leadership brings about negative consequences for women, and that female qualities in positions of responsibility, though currently missing, are necessary. It is emphasized, at the same time, that for women to become efficient leaders an adequate balance of male and female qualities must be achieved. Finally, two recent contributions to the study of leadership, postheroic leadership and glass cliff, are analyzed in the context of women's leadership. Adapted from the source document.

This article uses the assessment template suggested by de Rivera (2004/this issue) as a framework to assess the state of the culture of peace in Spain. After subjectively describing the current state of each of the aspects of the culture, it focuses on articulating the components of each aspect & identifying sources of indicators that could help in the objective assessment of the extent to which the culture exists. 8 Tables, 36 References. ; This study has two main goals: (a) to compare the relationship between transformational leadership and other important leadership styles (i.e., democratic versus autocratic or relations- and task-oriented leadership) and (b) to compare the effects of transformational leadership and the other styles on some important organizational outcomes such as employees' satisfaction and performance. For this purpose, a sample of 147 participants, working in 35 various work-teams, was used. Results show high correlations between transformational leadership, relations-oriented, democratic, and task-oriented leadership. On the other hand, according to the literature, transformational leadership, especially high levels, significantly increases the percentage of variance accounted for by other leadership styles in relevant organizational outcome variables (subordinates' performance, satisfaction and extra effort).
