Greenhouse gases emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels are worsening air quality and affecting the climate system. While climate change impacts on meteorological variables affects air quality by altering the concentration and distribution of pollutants, air pollution significantly influences the climate, leading to negative impacts on human health. Due to the combination of high temperatures, air pollution, and high population density, cities are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts. The planning and design of public spaces aimed at climate change mitigation and adaptation can result in multiple co-benefits for human health, while reducing social inequalities. To address the major research gaps in the communication between health and planning experts, and the lack of capacity among public sectors and policy makers, it is necessary to promote capacity building and knowledge sharing between the planning and health sectors. The purpose of this article is to develop preliminary recommendations for a process that allows a comprehensive assessment of the interlinkages between climate and health, social, environmental, and economic vulnerabilities, and the quality of the urban spaces, to support local governments, policymakers, and education institutions in making informed decisions for public spaces. The work aims at designing and implementing a demonstrative pilot plant to treat landfill leachate to: i. Encourage of the use the constructed wetlands for water quality improvement ii. To improve technical training programs in constructed wetlands iii. To cooperate with local authorities to promote the use of constructed wetlands to treat landfill leachate in areas with particular natural and cultural interests in Perú. To achieve these objectives, we have design and implemented a program to strengthen human capacity in the design, operation, monitoring and maintenance of constructed wetlands. Universidad Nacional Agricola la Molina (UNALM) has provided infrastructure, equipment, and library facilities to develop programs that include training, research, innovation and public awareness. The program for science is strengthening to improve the education, promote researchers, and encourage mobility of technical staff and students within the doctoral program at the UNESCO Chair of the UPC. The project also includes the production of training manuals as well as web tool for teaching, training, and dissemination. The program also includes the education of Environmental promoters that will train high school students on issues related to wastewater in schools. Has built a prototype artificial wetland and ecological toilet module. The prototype is fully operational and is expected to be a model for local actors. Moreover, it is expected that this work will contribute to local governments to implement strategies to improve water quality through constructed wetlands, and promote the use of artificial wetlands in isolated communities, increasing the quality of the environment and reduce the impact on human health. ; Postprint (published version)

Once considered a marginal or even irrelevant issue, in recent years, the environment has come to occupy an increasingly important place on the political, social and economic agenda. Environmental conflicts are often due to conflicting political and economic interests and can have major social repercussions. Until recently, little economic value was attached to drinking water; the same was true of arable land, energy generation and most natural resources. Pollution was regarded as a minor problem. Today, the economic and social value and costs of the environment are seen as incalculable and growing. Soil, food, water and air pollution have led to a significant increase in disease, and the cost of the ensuing environmental clean–up can be exponential.
