Taxes are an important tool of fiscal policy. However, the taxation system of a country also affects its economic growth and the welfare of the people. Since a change in tax policy has far-reaching consequences for various interconnected economic agents, computable general equilibrium model is used to quantify the impact of changes in direct and indirect tax rate policies on various economic indicators. For this, first a social accounting matrix based on 2017 data is also developed. The results show that in the long run under the unbalanced budget condition, reducing personal income tax rates results in increased consumption, government expenditures, and incomes of various types of labour, but decreased economic growth and exports. However, introducing a flat and low-income tax rate along with decreasing corporate tax, sales tax, and customs duties results in higher economic growth, exports, consumption expenditures, and household income. On the other hand, a balanced budget condition produces better economic results.

International audience ; The United States pursuing the realist prescription during the cold war helped maintain the balance of power and thus 'peace' among the competing great powers. In the post-cold war era it divorced some of realist assumptions-most importantly the prudential consideration-and pursued hegemonic policies which not only alienated its allies but also created apprehensions among other great powers about US ambitious grand designs. By pursuing such policies it has challenged not only the legitimacy of certain institutions established since Second World War (like United Nations), but also the institutions being established since Treaty of Westphalia (like state sovereignty). International audience ; How does leadership in the United States specifically affect its foreign policy decision-making towards Pakistan? Using the poliheuristic theory of decision-making, this paper explores how idiosyncratic factors such as leaders' perceptions, past experiences, and ideological orientations-along with the dynamic geopolitical environment of the world-affect the US foreign policy making process. It argues that the role of leadership increases when issues involve high-risk situations-for example after the 9/11 attacks, President Bush was autonomous 'enough' to devise the national security strategy vis-à-vis Pakistan. In a low-risk situation the role of leadership is either constrained by different actors, or the leadership utilizes the same actors such as the US Congress as leverage against Pakistan to entice or force it to bring its policy in line with the US national interests as perceived by the decision-makers. ; Comment le leadership aux États-Unis affecte-t-il spécifiquement ses décisions de politique étrangère envers le Pakistan? International audience ; With the signing of several lucrative deals on oil, gas, currency, and other bilateral and multilateral arrangements, Sino-Russian relations over the last three decades have reached unprecedented levels. However, as China begins to translate its economic influence in Central Asia into political one, Russia started feeling uneasy about losing its traditional sphere of influence in its 'Near-Abroad.' After the unveiling of 'One Belt One Road' (OBOR) initiative in 2013, President Putin, a year later, announced the 'Eurasian Economic Union' (EAEU). This was a calculated geopolitical decision on the part of Russia to rescue Central Asia from falling entirely in the Chinese sphere of influence. Against this backdrop, the regional order invites a deep sense of mistrust because there is a lack of realization on the part of both states as to where one's limits end and the other's begin. In the light of these developments, this study endeavors to address the question that why is Russia allowing China to expand its influence in Central Asia despite the growing economic asymmetry between them and what are the areas of convergence and divergence between them? This study intends to explore the causality relation between the Eighteenth Constitutional Amendment and the processes of democratic consolidation in Pakistan. It seeks to answer the question that how is 18th Amendment nurturing democratic norms and institutions, and why is it taken as an optimistic factor for democratic consolidation in Pakistan. International audience ; Twenty-first century has seen a rise of populism resulting into downgrading the quality of democracies in several states including the United States, Britain, Italy, Brazil, South Africa, India, Turkey, the Philippines, and Pakistan. States' transformation from authoritarianism to liberal democracies passing through the phase of electoral democracy is usually achieved through processes involving preventing democratic breakdown, preventing democratic erosion, and completing democracy. In recent years, liberal democracies are facing a challenge of populism from within which has boosted the process of de-democratisation or democratic backsliding. Why are democracies giving rise to populist leadership at the first place? While applying qualitative research methods, this study explores populism in the historical context, particularly in the USA. It hypothesizes that the interplay between demand and supply of populist leaders and inherent weaknesses in democracy as an institution are giving rise to populism as a phenomenon. Narratives are used by the states to create an environment in which foreign policy takes place. The US, over the years, has framed the war on terror and its relations with Pakistan in a specific way to justify its foreign policy goals. It has used coercion as well as enticements in order to force Pakistan to fulfill its foreign policy wish-list. Pakistan which has over the years been on the receiving end of these narratives has displayed unprecedented counter-narrative strategy. Applying Neoclassical Realism as a theoretical paradigm, this paper maps the continuity and change in the narrative and counter-narrative strategies of the US and Pakistan.
