Research question: International and national sport federations as well as their member organisations (usually sport clubs) are key actors within the sport system and have a wide range of relationships outside the sport system (e.g. with the state, sponsors, and the media). They are currently facing major challenges such as growing competition in top-level sports, democratisation of sports with "sports for all" and sports as the answer to social problems (integration, education, health, unemployment, etc.). In this context, professionalising sport organisations seems to be an appropriate strategy to face these challenges and solve current problems. We define the professionalisation of sport organisations as an organisational process of transformation leading towards organisational rationalisation, efficiency and business-like management. This has led to a profound organisational change, particularly within sport federations, characterised by the strengthening of institutional management (managerialism) and the implementation of efficiency-based management instruments and paid staff. Research methods: The goal of this article is to review the international literature and establish a global understanding of and theoretical framework for how sport organisations professionalise and what consequences this may have. Results and Findings: Our multi-level approach based on the social theory of action integrates the current concepts for analysing professionalisation in sport federations. We specify the framework for the following research perspectives: (1) forms, (2) causes and (3) consequences, and discuss the reciprocal relations between sport federations and their member organisations in this context. Implications: Finally, we derive general methodological consequences for the investigation of professionalisation processes in sport organisations.

Zusammenfassung
Zur Analyse der Mitgliederbindung in Sportvereinen wird ein akteurtheoretisches Modell entwickelt, das auf der verallgemeinerten Handlungstheorie von Esser basiert. Dabei wird die Frage der Bindung von Sportvereinsmitgliedern als Entscheidungshandlung zwischen Austritt oder weiterer Mitgliedschaft konzeptualisiert und das Austrittsrisiko anhand der subjektiven Erwartungen und Bewertungen der Mitglieder sowie ihrer spezifischen Eingebundenheit in die Organisation Sportverein erklärt. Die aus dem Modell abgeleiteten Hypothesen werden auf der Grundlage zweier Mitgliederbefragungen in 20 bzw. 14 ausgewählten Sportvereinen (N = 1 238 bzw. Ν = 975) empirisch geprüft und bestätigt. Es besteht ein positiver Zusammenhang zwischen den Faktoren solidargemeinschaftliche Handlungsorientierung (z.B. Verbundenheit, Identifikation) und Zufriedenheit mit den Leistungen des Vereins sowie der Mitgliederbindung. Jüngere Vereinsmitglieder treten eher aus dem Verein aus als ältere Mitglieder. Der Effekt des Faktors solidargemeinschaftliche Handlungsorientierung ist größer als der Effekt der Faktoren Zufriedenheit und Alter. Bei hoher solidargemeinschaftlicher Einbindung steht ein möglicher Austritt außer Frage.

Zusammenfassung
Der Beitrag analysiert auf Basis akteurtheoretischer Konzepte und des Papierkorbmodells die Entstehung organisationaler Initiativen zur Einbindung von Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund in Fußballvereinen. Als empirische Grundlage dienen 32 Expert:inneninterviews im Rahmen von Fallstudien in 12 Schweizer Fußballvereinen, welche organisationale Initiativen ergriffen haben. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass viele Vereine auf Basis moralischer Überzeugungen auf externe Anfragen im Zusammenhang mit den Fluchtbewegungen ab 2015 reagieren und zunächst Fußballangebote und bei gewichtigen Herausforderungen in der Umsetzung teilweise weitere strukturelle Maßnahmen realisieren. In der Regel sind dabei einzelne Vorstandsmitglieder aktiv, welche das Thema meist in informellen Entscheidungsgelegenheiten verhandeln. Nicht immer werden die Interessen unbeteiligter Mitglieder dabei berücksichtigt. Das Papierkorbmodell erweist sich als geeigneter theoretisch-methodischer Analyserahmen zur Untersuchung organisationaler Prozesse im Kontext der Integration in Sportvereinen.

port organisations are increasingly expected and encouraged to take up a wider social role. They are thought to foster social capital, social inclusion and democratic participation among organisational members, and to strengthen social cohesion in local communities. An increasing number of public institutions cooperate with sport organisations because of these supposedly positive spill-over effects. Next to these social roles for members and local communities, a number of sport organisations have explicitly begun to take up their social responsibility through taking an active position in combating organisational problems such as exclusionary practices or violence both on and of the pitch. While previous research has paid attention to these developments (e.g. Mutz & Baur, 2009; Spaaij et al., 2014; Vandermeerschen, Vos, & Scheerder, 2015), several authors have underscored the need for a more focused discussion which centres upon the social roles of sport organisations take in modern society. This is particularly needed with the ever more high expectations sport organisations find themselves confronted with, and which pose serious challenges for both organisational members and policymakers in the sports domain (Coalter, 2007; Haudenhuyse, 2017).

This article addresses factors that influence voluntary sport club (VSC) members' loyalty to voluntary engagement. The question asked is an issue of VSC volunteers' commitment; whether they decide to quit or continue their engagement. A multilevel approach was used that considered both individual characteristics of volunteers and corresponding contextual features of VSCs to analyse members' voluntary commitment. Different multilevel models were estimated in a sample of 477 volunteers in 26 Swiss and German VSCs. Results indicated that members' stable voluntary activity is not just an outcome of individual characteristics such as having children belonging to the club, strong identification with their club, positively perceived (collective) solidarity and job satisfaction. In addition to these factors, the findings confirm the significance of the contextual level. Stable volunteering appears to be more probable in rural VSCs and clubs that value conviviality. Surprisingly, the results reveal that specific measures to promote volunteering have no significant effect on voluntary commitment in VSCs.

Sport has become a highly differentiated social phenomenon in recent years. Changes in society, such as individualization, the growing significance of the health and body culture, and changing values, are considered to be generative mechanisms for increasing social importance and the differentiation of modern sport. Although discussions in sport sociology attribute the changes observed in recent decades of sport participation to a socially determined differentiation of sport, this premise has hardly ever been empirically tested. The present study examines to what extent the postulated developments in sport can be observed on the micro level of those engaging in sport, by examining sport behaviour from a contemporary historical perspective. Based on a life-course approach to research, a total of 1739 over 50-year-olds in Germany were asked about their sport participation as part of a retrospective longitudinal study. Results show that the increasing differentiation of sport can be documented by more diversified forms of individual sport careers. During a 30-year observation period the popularity of competitive sport decreased and the variety of ways in which sport was organized increased. A differentiated analysis based on examining three birth cohorts showed that the reported change in sport participation can be attributed to age, cohort and period effects. In addition, the present study examines how specific events in contemporary history are reflected in individual sporting careers. Sport careers in Chemnitz (Eastern Germany) and Braunschweig (Western Germany) differed before German reunification, but these differences have evened out after the political changes and the process of transformation.

Zusammenfassung
Für Sportvereine als Interessenorganisationen scheint die Rückbindung der Vereinsziele an die Mitgliederinteressen von zentraler Bedeutung zu sein. In der Vereinsrealität dürfte aber diese Rückbindung nur teilweise gewährleistet sein und folglich Ziel-Interessen-Divergenzen eher die Norm als die Ausnahme darstellen. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich die Frage, welche Ursachen für Ziel-Interessen- Divergenzen verantwortlich zu machen sind und welche Auswirkungen sich daraus für die Vereine ergeben. Dieser Frage geht der vorliegende Beitrag nach, indem auf der Grundlage des akteurtheoretischen Mehr-Ebenen-Modells zur Analyse der Entwicklung von Sportvereinen die struktur- und handlungsbedingten Ursachen und Auswirkungen von Divergenzen auf der Vereins- und Mitgliederebene beleuchtet werden. Mit Blick auf die Ursachen wurde der Einfluss der korporativen Vereinsstrukturen und der individuellen Handlungsorientierungen der Mitglieder auf Divergenzen untersucht. Die Befunde hierzu zeigen, dass Divergenzen einerseits durch einem zunehmenden Differenzierungs- und Hierarchisierungsgrad (z.B. Vereinsgröße, Umweltvernetzung, Oligarchisierung) begünstigt werden und andererseits vor allem bei einer primären Verfolgung von Eigeninteressen der Mitglieder auftreten. Hinsichtlich der Auswirkungen wurden die individuellen Mitgliederreaktionen und die korporativen Vereinsreaktionen auf Divergenzen analysiert. Diesbezüglich zeigen die Befunde, dass sowohl die Mitglieder als auch die Vereinsführung überwiegend konstruktiv auf Divergenzen reagieren (z.B. durch Problemansprache, Vertrauen, Kompromissfindung), so dass es vielen Vereinen offenbar relativ gut gelingt, Ziel-Interessen-Divergenzen bis zu einem gewissen Grad sowohl aushalten als auch aufarbeiten zu können.
