; This masters thesis deals with a specific form of communication among authorities and their subjects: supplications. Supplications contained numerous requests of legislative and administrative concern, for example requests of mercy, requests of granting privileges and support in emergencies. They enable access to the lifeworld of early modern people. Therefore, supplications became a major field of historical research in the last few decades. The present thesis emphasizes argumentation strategies of Valentin and Margaretha Jäger and the city council of Oppenheim, all key players in this supplication-process argued before the Aulic Council of Emperor Rudolf II, between the years 16021609. Methodologically this work relies on terms of a "Kulturgeschichte des Politischen". By laying focus on social discourse and political practices, it allows understanding contemporary patterns of sway and reign. In casu the argumentations reveal a world of norms and values omnipresent of the 16th and early 17th century (e.g. honor). This masters thesis splits in two sections. Starting with an introduction containing re-narrating the events leading to initiate this supplication-process, by tracing back sources, this part follows the framework conditions and analyses dealing with the lifeworld of Valentin and Margaretha Jäger place their supplication process into a temporal context. The second part analyses arguments of the two opposing parties themselves and showing the different use of arguments and the respective argumentation strategies. Additionally, the appendix lists the thirteen supplications of the couple Jäger and the three reports of the city council in tabular form. Combined with the main text these schedules enable a quick and uncomplicated overview of this complex topic and allow to depict alterations in argumentative strategies in the best possible way. ; vorgelegt von Philipp Neudeck, BA ; Zusammenfassungen in Deutsch und Englisch ; Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung des Verfassers/der Verfasserin ; Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Masterarbeit, 2016 ; (VLID)1592869
