In this anthology, prominent contemporary theorists assess the benefits and dangers of postmodernism for feminist theory. The contributors examine the meaning of postmodernism both as a methodological position and a diagnosis of the times. They consider such issues as the nature of personal and social identity today, the political implications of recent aesthetic trends, and the consequences of changing work and family relations on women's lives. The Children and Young People Bill will be introduced to Parliament in 2013 and will set out fundamental reforms to the way services for children and young people are designed, delivered and reviewed. The Scottish Government conducted a large-scale series of national engagement events to discuss the proposals for reforms with a wide range of stakeholders. In addition, it published a consultation document on 4 July 2012 which invited views on key areas of proposed reform: children's rights; early learning and childcare; getting it right for every child; and the care system.

The article discusses the state of American feminism. The author examines the historical activism, particularly the second wave, and questions whether or not a third wave is a plausible metaphor given the contemporary state. The article also seeks to define the various types of activism regarding gender issues since the 19th century, stating that they cannot be coined feminism or be construed as a metaphor of waves. The author reviews the changes in gender equality over the years before examining the inequalities that remain, and the definition of sexism and socio-cultural appropriateness. At issue, along with equality in life and in relation to rights issues, is the determining and overall viewpoint per the statement, the personal is the political. The author offers deep insight and criticism into the dynamic of gender-based political action and activism, particularly those ideals which pertain to women, equality, and ism elimination. Advocates the full acceptance of a pragmatic model of rationality & final rejection of the foundationalist belief in context-independent principles & explores how such a move manages the problem of relativism. It is argued that abandoning the idea of ultimately grounded principles does not represent a loss of rationality, only an overthrow of the assertion that has been made by Immanuelle Kant, Jurgen Habermas (eg, 1990), & Seyla Benhabib (eg, 1992) that intercontextual or at least philosophically established principles of rationality exist. Further, a pragmatic model of rationality that insists that principles are always created & interpreted in specific human contexts does not mean that all points of view are equally right, simply that a particular perspective cannot be disproved across contexts. A comment on an essay by Charles Taylor entitled "The Politics of Recognition" (1994), questioning Taylor's generalization of the central issues of identity across social groups. It is argued that the meaning of identity & recognition has actually varied widely among social groups, & that Taylor's analysis of multiculturalism is overly simplistic & somewhat divisive. His account assumes that those demanding recognition are a separate group from those who can bestow it, & that the contributions of those demanding recognition must be examined in a different way from those of other groups. It is recommended that studies of multiculturalism cease examining the judgments of worth of particular groups, & rather, begin to examine the process by which such judgments are made. 20 References.
