"Heutzutage ist es unverzichtbar für die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der EU, sich in der kulturellen Vielfalt sowie in den kulturellen Erfahrungen der Vergangenheit auszukennen. Das schließt die Fähigkeit ein, über die enge kulturelle Dimension hinauszugehen und diese zusammen mit den ihr zugrunde liegenden religiösen Einflüssen zu verstehen. Diese Überlegung war der Ausgangspunkt für das Projekt 'Europäische Identität und kultureller Pluralismus: Judentum, Christentum und Islam in europäischen Lehrplänen', das von 2000 bis 2002 in acht europäischen Ländern auf Initiative der Herbert-Quandt-Stiftung realisiert wurde. Der Beitrag stellt Empfehlungen und Leitlinien zusammen, Vorschläge, die Lehrer nutzen und in die bestehenden Lehrpläne einbinden können und in Curricula von Lehrerausbildungsinstituten einfließen könnten."
