The thrust of this study was to investigate the effect of poverty on the well-being of rural dwellers in Yakurr local government area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the effect of poverty on the quality of food and health care services access by rural dwellers in Yakurr local government area. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey research design. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting four hundred (400) respondents from the rural areas of Yakurr local government area of Cross River State. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Elucidated data were statistically analyzed using linear regression while all hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that poverty significantly affect the quality of food consumed by rural dwellers, it also revealed that poverty significantly affect the quality of health care services access by rural dwellers in Yakurr local government area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of this study it was recommended that government, non-government organisations, and wealthy individuals should contribute to the generation of employment, provision of social amenities and support the health needs of rural people in Yakuur local government of Cross River State, Nigeria.

Issues on women's deprivation, marginalization and empowerment are well documented in literature. The impact of women's empowerment on the well-being of unemployed women in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria, is yet to receive sufficient investigation from scholars. Thus, this study explores the relationship between women's empowerment and the well-being of the unemployed women, aged 18-45 years in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. It specifically examines the types and access to available women's empowerment programmes, the nature of empowerment programmes that women have benefitted from, as well as areas of positive impact in the context of socio-economic well-being. The study adopted an exploratory design using quantitative and qualitative data, obtained from 660 unemployed women recruited via multi-stage sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi square in testing the two hypotheses. Results indicate that 31.9% of respondents reported the provision of agricultural facilities as the most common women's empowerment programme, while 58.3% acknowledge that they have benefitted from any given women's empowerment programme. A total of 19.9% indicated that they have benefitted from micro-credit facilities, while 20.8% reveal that women's empowerment programmes have positively impacted their well-being. Findings further reveals a statistically significant relationship between education and the impact of women's empowerment programmes; and a statistically significant relationship between place of residence and the impact of women's empowerment programmes. Based on the findings, it was concluded that women's empowerment programmes have positively impacted the well-being of unemployed women in Yakurr, Nigeria. The study investigated development gap in social policy and social problem interaction by examining impact of National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) on rural communities in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to examine the relationship between non-participation of beneficiary communities in NAPEP project design at community level, corruption and policy implementation strategy on rural poverty reduction. The Ex-post facto research design was adopted to study communities in Oron and Udung Uko local government areas in Akwa Ibom State. Using a multistage sampling procedure, data were obtained from 400 respondents using Taro Yamene sample size determination formula. Data were analysed using Chi-square (X2) statistical technique. Main findings indicated that significant relationship exists between non-participation of beneficiary communities in NAPEP project design, corruption, policy implementation and poverty reduction in rural communities. The findings imply that NAPEP has not significantly achieved its goal of poverty reduction in rural communities. It has failed to elicit economic wellbeing priorities directly from target communities. Poverty can be reduced through accommodative and humanistic arrangements by allowing communities to identify welfare projects and eligible recipients. Rural dwellers have not experienced poverty reduction because of NAPEP development strategy gap.

Using the Lafarge Cement Company's example, the study examined the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the well-being of rural dwellers in Nigeria. The design adopted is cross-sectional, where quantitative and qualitative methods were applied in obtaining data from one thousand one hundred and four (1104) respondents from selected communities in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State, Nigeria. The research used a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were then analysed using descriptive statistics such as percentages and frequency tables. At the same time, the qualitative data were analysed using content analysis techniques. However, the findings revealed that 62.1% of the respondents reported that they are aware of the existing projects executed by Lafarge Cement Company. While 36.4% of the respondents reported construction and rehabilitation of roads as the projects with the highest attention. The findings of the study further showed that 36.4% of the respondents identified improved income and wealth as the most impacted aspect of their well-being. Beyond investing in infrastructure, the study recommended that more resources be invested in young people's human capital development in rural areas. This will help in achieving sustainable development in rural areas

The study examines the extent to which working conditions affect the performance of healthcare providers. The design was exploratory, using both quantitative and qualitative data. Data were obtained from 490 medical personnel at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). The research used a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics such as percentages and frequency tables, while the chi-square test was used to test the significance of the relationship between the two hypotheses stated. The findings of the study reveal that male respondents are less likely to perceive non-payment of hazard allowances as affecting their performance than female respondents. The study also reveals that younger healthcare providers perceive the work environment as affecting their performance more than their older colleagues (Aduo-Adjei et al., 2016). As a result, the study recommends specific interventions to address the unique working conditions and challenges that various groups of medical personnel face. This will ensure that each category of medical personnel is given favourable conditions to improve their performance, which, in the long run, will ensure effective healthcare delivery.

The reality is that social welfare services in Nigeria exclude more people than they cover, resulting in the deprivation of basic human needs such as water, sanitation, shelter, healthcare, and education that have hindered the betterment of the living conditions of the citizens (Nkpoyen et al., 2021; Okpa, 2022). This study explored factors affecting the government delivery of social welfare services in Nigeria. Five hundred and seventy (570) respondents' opinions were purposively sampled using the 36-item Social Welfare Service Delivery Questionnaire (SWSDQ) and an in-depth interview guide. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square statistical technique, and Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, version 20. As a supplement to the quantitative data, the qualitative data were analysed in themes. Findings from this study revealed that although all the respondents reported knowing about available social welfare services, 44.3% reported not accessing the existing social services because of such factors as political expediency, transparency, accountability, corruption, and perception of social service providers. A key policy issue, therefore, is the need to look into the eradication or mitigation of these factors ascribed to be hindering the delivery of social welfare services. This will expedite the blanket spread of the delivery, accessibility, and utilisation of social welfare services for residents, not just in the study area but across the country
