History of Japanese migration in Argentina: diasporizationand transnationalism ; Historia de la migración japonesa en Argentina: diasporizacióny transnacionalismo
Contrary to the traditional characterisation of migration as an experience of uprooting, breaking, it has begun to see it as a process of diasporisation, in terms of Roger Brubaker, prioritising the persistence of a cultural identity linking place of origin and destination. The growing spatial mobility of the population has led to the need to rethink the study of the history of migration. Traditionally, it was based on national stories, either from the host community or from the place of origin, and its socio-economic impact was studied in particular. Transnational practices, the use of cultural expressions such as 'ethnic brands' in diasporisation processes, force us to broaden the field of observation. In the case of the Japanese community, its origins, the role of the Japanese government and its objectives in promoting the preservation of Japanese cultural identity, not always in line with those of the community itself, will be presented here. Attention is also drawn to the heterogeneity of Japanese culture in the case of okinawense. Finally, the experience of Argentinian nationals of Japanese origin in Japan, through which it is possible to observe the process of building their own identity, will be observed. More recently, our understanding of migration has been influenced by Rogers Brubaker's works on diasporas and "diasporization". The main element considered by Brubaker was the persistence of a cultural identity as a continuum from the point of departure to the point of arrival. Recently, the improvements in communication and technology have made spatial mobility possible, thus creating a need to review theoretical approaches to the history of migration.
