During the years prior to World War II, a number of composers in Germany were creating music of political content that addressed social issues. By writing El Cimarrón (1970), Hans Werner Henze made a unique contribution to the tradition of political committed music in Germany. Henze was able to go beyond the achievements of his predecessors by giving a documentary character to the work and integrating the results of his own experiments into the composition. This paper discusses the characteristic features of El Cimarrón and Henze's approach to composing this work.
AbstractSustainable consumption analyses the choice of products to address environmental issues. In recent years, the circular economy model () has offered strategies as possible solutions to address the growing demand for action on climate justice. The success of a business model depends on understanding the consumer's role. The power of individual consumer actions is vital for minimizing the adverse impacts of climate change. Although the effectiveness of in the business sector has been studied, the literature has ignored the role of consumers in sustainable consumption practices through. Thus, using a survey technique, this quantitative study analyzed part of the theoretical model of Mostaghel and Chirumalla to analyze how awareness and consumer attitude significantly impact purchase intention and ethical purchasing behavior. The data analyzed through PLS‐SEM reflected several theoretical implications in the forms of consumer behavior, a topic that has not been addressed in the literature.
Lecitase Ultra is a chimera produced by the fusion of the genes of the lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosus and the phospholipase A1 from Fusarium oxysporum. The enzyme was first designed for the enzymatic degumming of oils, as that problem was not fully resolved before. It is commercialized only as an enzyme solution by Novo Nordisk A/S. This review shows the main uses of this promising enzyme. Starting from the original degumming use, the enzyme has found applications in many other food modification applications, like production of structured phospholipids (e.g., derivatives of phosphatidylcholine), tuning the properties of flour, etc. Moreover, the enzyme has been used in fine chemistry (resolution of racemic mixtures), in the production of aromas and fragrances, polymers modification, etc. Some papers show the use of the enzyme in biodiesel production. Moreover, we present the different technologies applied to obtain a suitable immobilized biocatalyst, remarking the immobilization via interfacial activation and how heterofunctional acyl supports may solve some of the limitations. Immobilized enzyme physical and chemical modifications have also been presented. Genipin is a reagent isolated from the Gardenia jasminoides fruit extract, and whose low toxicity and good crosslinking properties have converted it into a reactive whose popularity is increasing by the day. These properties have made it widely used in many medical applications, mainly in the production of chitosan materials (crosslinked by this reactive), biological scaffolds for tissue engineering, and nanoparticles of chitosan and nanogels of proteins for controlled drug delivery, the genipin crosslinking being a key point to strengthen the stability of these materials. This review is focused on the mechanism of reaction of this reagent and its use in the design of biocatalysts, where genipin plays a double role, as a support activating agent and as inter- or intramolecular crosslinker. Its low toxicity makes this compound an ideal alterative to glutaraldehyde in these processes. Moreover, in some cases the features of the biocatalysts prepared using genipin surpassed those of the biocatalysts prepared using other standard crosslinkers, even disregarding toxicity. Lipases are the most widely used enzymes in biocatalysis, and the most utilized method for enzyme immobilization is using hydrophobic supports at low ionic strength. This method allows the one step immobilization, purification, stabilization, and hyperactivation of lipases, and that is the main cause of their popularity. This review focuses on these lipase immobilization supports. First, the advantages of these supports for lipase immobilization will be presented and the likeliest immobilization mechanism (interfacial activation on the support surface) will be revised. Then, its main shortcoming will be discussed: enzyme desorption under certain conditions (such as high temperature, presence of cosolvents or detergent molecules). Methods to overcome this problem include physical or chemical crosslinking of the immobilized enzyme molecules or using heterofunctional supports. Thus, supports containing hydrophobic acyl chain plus epoxy, glutaraldehyde, ionic, vinylsulfone or glyoxyl groups have been designed. This prevents enzyme desorption and improved enzyme stability, but it may have some limitations, that will be discussed and some additional solutions will be proposed (e.g., chemical amination of the enzyme to have a full covalent enzyme-support reaction). These immobilized lipases may be subject to unfolding and refolding strategies to reactivate inactivated enzymes. Background: Cervical cancer claims 311,000 lives annually, and 90% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Cervical cancer is a highly preventable and treatable disease, if detected through screening at an early stage. Governments have a responsibility to screen women for precancerous cervical lesions. Yet, national screening programmes overlook many poor women and those marginalised in society. Under-screened women (called hard-to-reach) experience a higher incidence of cervical cancer and elevated mortality rates compared to regularly-screened women. Such inequalities deprive hard-to-reach women of the full enjoyment of their right to sexual and reproductive health, as laid out in Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and General Comment No. 22. Discussion: This article argues first for tailored and innovative national cervical cancer screening programmes (NCSP) grounded in human rights law, to close the disparity between women who are afforded screening and those who are not. Second, acknowledging socioeconomic disparities requires governments to adopt and refine universal cancer control through NCSPs aligned with human rights duties, including to reach all eligible women. Commonly reported- and chronically under-addressed- screening disparities relate to the availability of sufficient health facilities and human resources (example from Kenya), the physical accessibility of health services for rural and remote populations (example from Brazil), and the accessibility of information sensitive to cultural, ethnic, and linguistic barriers (example from Ecuador). Third, governments can adopt new technologies to overcome individual and structural barriers to cervical cancer screening. National cervical cancer screening programmes should tailor screening methods to under-screened women, bearing in mind that eliminating systemic discrimination may require committing greater resources to traditionally neglected groups. Conclusion: Governments have human rights obligations to refocus screening policies and programmes on women who are disproportionately affected by discrimination that impairs their full enjoyment of the right to sexual and reproductive health. National cervical cancer screening programmes that keep the right to health principles (above) central will be able to expand screening among low-income, isolated and other marginalised populations, but also women in general, who, for a variety of reasons, do not visit healthcare providers for regular screenings. ; publishersversion ; published
