Celem artykułu jest analiza wkładu Polski w debatę na temat modelu integracji europejskiej oraz reformy i transformacji Unii Europejskiej w XXI wieku. Problem ten ma istotne znaczenie z punktu widzenia dyskusji wewnętrznej w Polsce o priorytetach polityki zagranicznej oraz ogólnoeuropejskiej debaty na temat realizowanego i pożądanego modelu integracji europejskiej. W artykule ukazane są stanowiska dwóch głównych partii politycznych, tj. Prawa i Sprawiedliwości oraz Platformy Obywatelskiej, które zdominowały polską scenę polityczną od 2005 r., czyli w okresie członkowskim w Unii Europejskiej. Generalnie obie partie polityczne odmiennie ukazują preferowany model integracji europejskiej i miejsce Polski w UE.

Democracy promotion and European security: effectiveness and dilemmas of Eastern policy of the European Union in the 21st century
The main aim of the article is a theoretical and empirical analysis of the impact of the European Union on the democratization process in the countries of Eastern Europe. In its foreign policy the European Union, regarded as a normative power, has a strategic interest in stabilizing neighbouring countries through the export of democratic values in order to ensure its own security. It is claimed, however, that the European Union's ability to influence the outside world is limited. The effectiveness of the EU's conditionality policy is mainly related to the perceived benefits by third countries – in case of Eastern European countries a membership offer as the main incentive is not yet taken into account. Of great importance there is also a lack of common EU position towards Russia, which regards a European export of democratic values to countries of the post-Soviet area as a challenge to its position on the international arena. A European-Russian rivalry on the post-Soviet area can be then described using realist theory of international relations. The article ends with recommendations for the European Union.

The aim of the article is to analyse Poland's energy security in the context of Russia's neo-imperial policy, treating energy carriers as an instrument of influence and dependence of states, and to rebuild its international position. In line with the geopolitical approach, limiting the energy dependence of Central and Eastern Europe on Russia has not only a purely economic dimension, but concerns the geostrategic future of the European continent and the type of international order to be developed in Europe and in the transatlantic area. Poland's gas strategy is a case study. Poland decided to finish the contract for the purchase of natural gas from Russia by December 31, 2022. Poland, striving to meet the growing needs for natural gas, undertakes actions aimed at diversifying sources and directions of supplies. Particular emphasis is placed on the concept of Poland as a gas hub developed within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative and a desire to prevent Russia and Germany from building the Nord Stream II pipeline, a project, which is in Poland's opinion, contradictory with the aim to ensure Europe's energy security.

The aim of the article is to show the explanatory and prognostic power of theories of international relations (neorealism, neo-liberal institutionalism and social constructivism) in the situation of visible problems with predicting the end of the Cold War and explaining the democratization process in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and other parts of the world. In the face of significant changes that have influenced the formation of a new post-Cold War international order, it is necessary to consider the importance of the theory in adopting appropriate research strategies so that on the one hand, it is possible to predict the course of events with some degree of probability and on the other, to explain their essence and importance. The end of the Cold War and the process of transforming the countries of Central and Eastern Europe thus pose a general and extremely important question about the possibility of developing a scientific approach to the analysis of international relations, which goes beyond only short-term observation of current events. The article analyzes the most important theoretical approaches in the context of adopting such a research strategy, thanks to which one could depart from the dominance of extreme, mutually exclusive positions. The great debates that have been held so far have shown that wealth in science is not a one-sided approach, even if at some point or time we are dealing with the supremacy of a particular theory or a methodological approach. The fiasco of the science of international relations in predicting the end of the Cold War has shown the necessity of undertaking such activities whose task would be to combine rather than exclude. The end of the Cold War and the transformation process of Central and Eastern Europe are therefore treated as case studies that help in testing the theory of international relations as adequate instruments for analyzing the changing international situation.

W obliczu istotnych przemian, które miały wpływ na kształtowanie się nowego pozimnowojennego porządku międzynarodowego, należy zastanowić się nad znaczeniem teorii w przyjmowaniu odpowiednich strategii badawczych, aby z jednej strony, można było z jakimś stopniem prawdopodobieństwa przewidzieć bieg wydarzeń oraz z drugiej, wyjaśnić ich istotę i znaczenie. Celem artykułu jest analiza dwóch układów instytucjonalnych, które rozwinęły się w ramach transatlantyckich stosunków bezpieczeństwa. Po pierwsze, jest to NATO, które powstało w 1949 r. jako sojusz wojskowy, którego pierwotnym celem było przeciwdziałanie zagrożeniu ze strony Związku Radzieckiego i kontrola Niemiec dzięki zakotwiczeniu Stanów Zjednoczonych na kontynencie europejskim. Od tego czasu, a w szczególności od końca zimnej wojny, NATO przeszło proces transformacji, ale szereg pierwotnych funkcji nadal ma ogromne znaczenie. Poszczególne teorie stosunków międzynarodowych (neorealizm, neoliberalny instytucjonalizm, konstruktywizm społeczny) w odmienny sposób interpretują zmiany w NATO. Po drugie, alternatywnym układem instytucjonalnym dla NATO mogą być relacje w dziedzinie bezpieczeństwa i obrony pomiędzy Unią Europejską a Stanami Zjednoczonymi. Ma on bardziej charakter potencjalny, gdyż nadal Unia ma problemy ze swoją podmiotowością w polityce międzynarodowej.

This article analyze the war in Syria in geopolitical terms and as a humanitarian catastrophe. Its significance goes beyond merely its regional dimension. There are many different causes of the Syrian conflict, including its colonial past, the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the American invasion of Iraq in 2003, the sectarian polarisation and radicalization of Syria and Iraq and the West's lukewarm response to the "Arab Spring". Finding a solution to the conflict in Syria is not an easy task, due to the involvement of various global and regional powers in a proxy war, such as the United States, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia or Turkey, and due to the extraordinary brutality of the Syrian regime. The Syrian war has triggered the worst humanitarian disaster since the Second World War. The refugee crisis leads to the destabilization of the Middle East and affects Europe as the desired destination.
