The simulation of strategic problems in inter-Gov'al pol'al & diplomatic relations is being increasingly exp'ed with for 3 purposes: (1) the teaching of undergraduate & graduate S's, (2) training of diplomatic & military trainees, & (3) as an adjunct to professional res or policy planning with respect to strategies of foreign policy. MIT has exp'ed with (1) & (3) types. The teaching games, including one in collaboration with other US U's, show the pol'al exercise to be a highly useful pedagogical tool, sharpening the S's awareness of the environment of pol'al decision-making & maximizing learning by utilizing virtually all the senses in the role-playing process. The serious professional game using experienced personnel, while obviously incapable of reliably predicting future events, can reveal additional areas requiring further res, illuminate the availability of alternative national strategies, & provide insights into a range of possible reactions of Gov's to varying external challenges.
