US public attitude toward electoral reform is evaluated by assessing various public opinion polls. Analysis of public opinion polls conducted between the 1960s & 1990s revealed that a majority of Americans supported general changes to campaign procedures. Several specific findings concerning Americans' attitude toward electoral reform are reported: support for a constitutional amendment that would modify or replace the electoral college system has remained above 50 % between 1967 & 2000; a majority of Americans would prefer selecting presidential candidates via national primary elections rather than the current party-oriented method; backing for the public financing of presidential & congressional elections has remained weak since the 1970s; a majority of Americans believe that conventional poll-site voting offers a safer & more accurate form of voting than Internet methods; & a slight majority of American favor the standardization of ballot design & voting procedures across US states. It is concluded that constitutional & jurisdictional constraints, coupled with politicians' unwillingness to change the electoral system, will significantly hinder efforts to achieve reform. 1 Appendix, 15 References.
