The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented global event. Physical distancing and other restrictions imposed by national and local governments all over the world to contain the spread of the virus almost certainly have had a significant impact on young people, who are more sensitive to peer interaction and social stimuli than adults. This article sets out to investigate the lifestyles of young Italians during the first lockdown, with the aim of exploring how leisure becomes the object of a negotiation between social needs, regulatory requirements, and a situation of crisis. To investigate these aspects, we present the results of a quantitative study conducted on a large group of individuals in Italy, focusing on young Italians' lifestyles and leisure activities, together with an overview of prevailing moods. Our findings indicate that young people activated various adaptation strategies in response to the crisis with possible significant effects on lifestyles and well-being.
Through thematic analysis of an in-depth interview with Italian crossmedia artist Charlie G Fennel, the contribution investigates the relationship among art, gender politics and digital environments. Without any generalizing ambition, the study explores the production of meaning that emerges from the interaction between a gender non-conforming subject and the symbolic system of digital media. It inquires the ways in which social media and digital platforms provide spaces, tools and languages that are functional to the self-representation and deconstruction of (visual) gender conventions in a specific form of artistic activism.

Literature on youth and risk has traditionally been dominated by psycho-dynamic explanations of social action, studied within a set of adult discourses and searching for single causes for risk-taking in practices like the abuse of alcohol and drugs, unprotected sex and dangerous driving. To overcome these limitations, we listened to young Italian people through a survey conducted on a sample of 1,175 secondary school students and aimed at collecting their viewpoints on and experiences of the relationship between risk and leisure. With an awareness of a plurality of factors influencing risk-taking among the young, this study hypothesizes a contiguity between voluntary risk exposure and gender, age, sociocultural family status, and leisure activities. Both statistical textual analysis methods and logistic regression models were applied to reach the results. The findings show different semantic dimensions of risk according to different social factors.
