This article presents the Code of Professional Ethics of Sociologist adopted at the 5th Congress of the Sociological Association of Ukraine in May 2004.
The article presents a conceptual model of democratic electoral system development and analysis of empirical data on factors of political success in the electoral situation. Various participants of the electoral process (population, politicians, journalists, government employees, analysts-politologists) evaluated the political success factors; and comparative analysis of these evaluations made it possible to determine the main vectors ("reverse" and "manipulative-mystifying") affecting deviations from direct electoral system development in modern Ukraine.
The article presents the main results of the survey (1992–2003) on interethnic orientations of Ukrainian population measured according to the social distance scale by Bogardus adapted in Ukraine by the article's author in 1990. The obtained data made it possible to reveal a number of phenomena ("over-caution", "Eastern Slavic isolation", "redoubled border control", "high jump", "unanimous isolation"), and paradoxes of the mass interethnic self-consciousness of population (paradox of the "national identification", the "good attitude" paradox). New results confirmed the growing orientations (in the mass consciousness) to the larger ethnic distance, which promotes development of national and governmental isolation. The author paid much attention to a story about the methods (the social distance scale) development and their approbation in Ukraine.
The article presents an institutionalization concept in a post-soviet society. The double institutionalization phenomenon was described as a specific social mechanism which supports social stability and integration under conditions when institutional bases of social life are ruining. In order to test hypotheses on specific character and tendencies of post-soviet institutionalization and new social institution formation, authors use the data of sociological monitoring on social changes in Ukrainian society conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for many years.
