Success of the Protestant missionary enterprise throughout the African continent depends upon the practice of racial equality between missionaries and natives. Missionaries going into the continent, and now at work, must consciously avoid all forms of segregation and discrimination, existing as a result of racial and cultural differences. The article treats 4 topics: (1) the historical background of African-missionary relations; (2) general guides for a program to reduce discrimination; (3) examples demonstrating social integration in person-to-person behavior; (4) principles of effective interracial relations. Foreign missions personnel are admonished to attend to the importance of race relations within the US, and the effect thereon of ethnic-group behavior in Africa. M. F. Lewis.

Nongovernmental development organizations (NGDOs) ultimately measure their success by the impact they have on their beneficiaries, their families, and the communities in which they live. One potentially important piece to the NGDO impact puzzle, yet to be addressed in the literature, is the so-called community economic impact, defined here as the direct and induced impact of the NGDO on local economic activity. This article demonstrates how a community economic impact might be estimated using a program of Project Hope—an international health care NGDO—in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Integral to estimating a community economic impact is the calculation of the relevant regional income multiplier. This article also demonstrates how a regional income multiplier might be estimated for Santo Domingo using the minimum requirements approach developed by Ullman and Dacey. It is hoped that this article will encourage and help other researchers incorporate community economic impact into future analyses of NGDO programs.

In mail surveys, advance notice is used to reduce nonresponse. However, evidence shows that when homogeneous pop's are sampled, advance notice does not signif'ly improve response rate. A homogeneous sample of 236 M alumni from a highly structured MBA program at a large private U was drawn for a mail survey. Of the sample, 45% received advance notice. No signif diff in response rate was seen. In a 2nd survey, 2 homogeneous pop's of religious leaders were sampled to study pol'al opinion. 33% of 450 leaders in Group I & of 150 leaders in Group II received advance notice. Again, no signif or practical diff in response rate was seen. These findings suggest that advance notice has little, if any, justification when a homogeneous pop is sampled. AA.
