El fenómeno de la internacionalización evoluciona, al terminar la Guerra Fría, hacia una globalización en la sociedad poscapitalista, en la cual el conocimiento es el recurso fundamental para generar riqueza. Al entender la globalización como un proceso de interconexión financiera, económica, social, política y cultural se abre la oportunidad para el progreso de los pueblos que desarrollen su economía al abrirse hacia el exterior. Ya no es momento para teorizar sobre la conveniencia o no de la globalización, ésta es una realidad irreversible que en Colombia debemos aprovechar. ; After the Cold War, the process of internationalization evolves towards globalization in the post-capitalistic society, where knowledge is considered the most critical resource to create wealth. Understanding globalization as an interconnected process among financial, economic, social, political, and cultural elements provides the opportunity to any country to develop itself by eliminating its geographic boundaries. It is no longer the time to theorize over the pertinence of globalization, since it has become a reality that we should take advantage in Colombia.

Despite the fact that the depth range for all species was not completely covered, analysis of different deep distributions of the 25 most representative species showed that the fauna are zoned with depth. Three faunal assemblages with characteristic catch rates, diversity and dominant species were found on the shelf (126–300 m), upper continental slope (300– 600 m) and middle continental slope (>600 m). Catch rates were greatest on the shelf and upper continental slope, while diversity was greatest on the middle continental slope. Dominance of the commercial species Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), golden redfish (Sebastes marinus) and American plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides) on the shelf, beaked redfish (Sebastes mentella) and Labrador redfish (Sebastes fasciatus) on upper continental slope, and Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) on the middle continental slope. This showed an important aspect of the community structure. Diversity patterns may be understood in terms of the relationships with predation, competition, environmental heterogeneity and trophic level. Also the influence of the fisheries in the area can modify this structure. On the size-depth correlations, only longnose eel (Synaphobranchus kaupy), longfin hake (Urophycis chestery), Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), beaked redfish (Sebastes mentella), golden redfish (Sebastes marinus) and Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) showed a significant 'bigger-deeper' relationship (i.e. larger fish in deeper strata), while spotted wolffish (Anarhichas minor) and witch flounder (Glyptocephalus cynoglossus) showed a negative 'smaller-deeper' relationship. ; Peer reviewed
7 pages, 5 figures, 5 tables. ; The food and feeding of Flemish Cap cod are described for 5 years based on 3921 stomachs collected in the fishing grounds off the Flemish Cap, Newfoundland in summer 1989–1993. Feeding intensity was high but the prey spectrum was narrow in all years with hyperiids and redfish (Sebastes sp.) predominating. Squid and poly-chaetes had a high inter-annual variability. Juvenile cod diet was dominated by crustaceans, mainly hyperiids, and polychaetes, while in adult cod diet the most important prey were fish, mainly redfish. The maximum size of redfish eaten increased with cod size, but prey–predator size relationships showed weak correlation. Cannibalism increased in 1991 (mainly upon 1-year-olds), coinciding with the appearance of a large year class in 1990. Las empresas de economías modernas enfrentan el reto de ser rentables y reducir su impacto ecológico. Se está haciendo un esfuerzo científico, tecnológico y económico para sustituir los petroproductos por productos obtenidos de materia prima orgánica. La producción de camarón (Peneus vannamei) genera 400 kg de desperdicio por tonelada. Ahora ya es viable técnica y económicamente usar ese desperdicio para producir quitosano que sirve de polímero para producir materiales biodegradables. Invertir en un sistema de producción de camarón y de quitosano con desperdicio de camarón es más rentable que mantenerse solamente en la producción. La evaluación financiera del proyecto de camarón-quitosano con la metodología tradicional de Valor Actual Neto (VAN) se tiene que complementar con la metodología de opciones reales que permite considerar en el análisis la volatilidad de los precios del camarón y del quitosano. El resultado es que un proyecto de camarón-quitosano es más rentable (VANTOTAL=$1 790 000) que si solo se produce camarón (VAN=$182 000). Se concluye que es posible aumentar la rentabilidad de la cadena productiva de camarón mediante el tratamiento de su desperdicio para producir quitosano.
Los productores de durazno en México forman sus expectativas de producción basadas en el precio futuro; estos esperan que el precio aumente para seguir con la actividad agrícola, razón por la cual no toman la decisión de buscar otros usos y mercados para la fruta, diferentes al mercado en fresco. El objetivo fue analizar la dinámica de la formación del precio de mercado del durazno en México, su tendencia y volatilidad a fin de pronosticar la trayectoria de este en el tiempo. La hipótesis fue que los precios del durazno presentan alta volatilidad y tendencia negativa que convergen a un precio con constante. Con la metodología de un modelo dinámico bajo un mercado simple, una ecuación diferencial de segundo grado y una ecuación browniana se obtuvo que el precio real del durazno presentó severas oscilaciones con tendencia negativa; que la trayectoria del tiempo condujo al precio de la fruta hacia un precio constante de equilibrio, pero que este fue bajo con respecto a los niveles de los periodos anteriores, por lo que se comprobó que el precio del fruto no aumentará en los próximos 15 años y en consecuencia, ante este escenario de incertidumbre, los productores de dicho fruto podrían dejar de seguir invirtiendo en la actividad.
