Natura o tecnica? Sars-Cov-2, nuovi materialismi e critica dell'Antropocene
In: Sociologia urbana e rurale, Heft 127, S. 94-106
ISSN: 0392-4939
A different kind of emancipation? From lifestyle to form-of-life
In: European journal of social theory, Band 25, Heft 1, S. 155-171
ISSN: 1461-7137
The modern outlook on emancipation has made its quest inseparable from a quest for endless enhancement, based on an ever-more intensive exploitation of the biophysical world. This accounts for how unsustainable ways of living are reiterated worldwide, in spite of evidence of their deleterious effects. The underpinnings of unsustainability, and a major impediment to conceiving alternatives, come from an account of the human as ontologically indeterminate, crushed on doing, both vulnerable and powerful towards the world. The impasse of such ambivalence hampers social theory critique, from post-humanist ontologies to the case for degrowth and lifestyle politics. The article outlines a different take on emancipation. An account is provided of form-of-life as a doing tailored to being – not as a self-enclosed monad but as a result of the encounter between own 'inclination' and the world. This theoretical perspective discloses a research program on emergent mobilisations.

Lavoro-natura-valore: come sciogliere il nodo gordiano?
The commentary critically addresses Emanuele Leonardi's arguments as exposed in Lavoro Natura Valore – André Gorz tra marxismo e decrescita (Orthotes, 2017). In particular, it fo-cuses on the notions of formal and real subsumption, on the critique of labor as an ontological category and on the concept of destituent politics.

Energia di comunità. Una ricognizione critica della letteratura
The expression "community energy" refers to initiatives where communities show a high level of ownership or control and enjoy significant collective benefits related to the generation, management, conservation, acquisition and consumption of energy; benefits that often include a strengthening of social cohesion and local economy and that extend to the whole society thanks to the reduction of consumption and the development of renewables. Studies on community energy have expanded quickly. The essay addresses, through an exploratory inquiry, the level of maturity reached by the literature. Indicators of maturity of a research field can be considered a robust and shared theoretical and methodological basis and an incremental knowledge inscribed in a coherent empirical framework. To search for an answer the study has selected about forty articles in English published between 2007 and 2017, taking the Web of Science as a database. Results show a rather "compact" literature – cross-references abound, and a small number of journals host the bulk of the works – which has developed to a significant extent autonomously from neighbouring research topics. Community energy appears a dynamic and complex field, yet seldom considered capable of engendering profound changes in the existing arrangements. Positive evaluations prevail over critical ones, often building on the classic trope of community "warm" relations as opposed to society's "cold" ones. The theoretical framework does not seem yet well-established and the prevailing methodological approaches are those typical of exploratory investigations. In the time span analysed, therefore, more than an actual theoretical and analytical development one finds a constant enrichment of empirical evidences.
