Este trabajo forma parte de una investigación superior de tesis doctoral defendida en 2012 ; El artículo estudia los discursos periodísticos sobre el encaje catalán y vasco que proyectaban los diarios ABC, El País, La Vanguardia, Avui, El Correo y Deia en un período que va desde noviembre de 1975 hasta octubre de 1979. A través del enfoque multidisciplinar que permite el análisis crítico del discurso (ACD), se ha constatado que los rotativos no hacían una explicación exhaustiva de la posibilidad de ejercer el derecho a la autodeterminación. En ocasiones, se ofrecía información sesgada y falacias que legitimaban y perpetuaban ideas y opiniones alineadas a ideologías de formaciones políticas con las que se sentían próximos. ; This study explores the ways in which the political position of Catalonia and the Basque Country inside Spain was represented in the ABC, El País, La Vanguardia, Avui, El Correo and Deia newspapers between November 1975 and October 1979. We adopt a multidisciplinary approach of critical discourse analysis (CDA). We found that the press often fails to present the aspiration for self-determination of Catalonia and the Basque Country in a thorough, balanced way. On occasions we find that the information is incomplete or biased; the papers make gratuitous or fallacious statements to legitimise and perpetuate the positions of the political parties closest to them in terms of ideology.

Abstract

El objetivo fundamental de este artículo es el de definir la estructura de la comunicación audiovisual actual, fruto de unas coordenadas contextuales de carácter político, tecnológico y también social. Nos centraremos en el análisis de la estructura del sistema multimedial global que interfiere directamente en los procesos de producción y consumo de los productos audiovisuales. Éstos, inscritos dentro de una lógica capitalista, distribuidos y pensados a escala global, contribuyen en el proceso de industrialización de la cultura y, en concreto, la comunicación. En consecuencia aparece el asentamiento de una nueva doctrina: la del imperialismo financiero que se encuentra detrás del pensamiento único. ; The main aim of this paper is to define the structure of the current audio-visual communications system, which has been developed according to the political, technological and social coordinates that influence it. We will focus on the analysis of the structure of the multimedia global system that interferes directly in the processes of production and consumption of audio-visual products. These products, which fall within the capitalist logic, are distributed and thought out on a global scale, and they contribute to the process of cultural industrialisation, and more specifically to communication. Consequently, we are witnessing the establishment of a new doctrine: financial imperialism, which supports a logic of single thought.

El artículo estudia los discursos periodísticos sobre el encaje catalán y vasco que proyectaban los diarios ABC, El País, La Vanguardia, Avui, El Correo y Deia en un período que va desde noviembre de 1975 hasta octubre de 1979. En este artículo se presentan las interpretaciones de esos cambios a partir de la visión de los profesionales que producían los proyectos editoriales. Los resultados han sido obtenidos a partir de grupos focales de discusión con profesionales de la comunicación en activo en publicaciones no diarias de la época (1975-1982). Los focus groups permiten concluir que la formación, muchas veces autodidacta, de los profesionales influye en las consideraciones deontológicas que supone la indistinción entre periodista y militante, característica del periodo de la dictadura y de cambio político. Como consecuencia de ese estilo de periodismo, la prensa no diaria se disputa la hegemonía de los medios del movimiento en la formación de la opinión pública. Sin embargo, según estos testimonios, la mayoría de los proyectos editoriales no diarios con objetivos políticos no sobreviven a la llegada de una prensa diaria profesionalizadora después de 1976, ejercida mayormente por profesionales formados en escuelas y universidades de Periodismo. The practice of journalism underwent a profound and continuous renewal in the Spanish non-daily press during the years of the political transition to democracy. This article presents the interpretations of these changes based on the vision of the professionals who produced the editorial projects. The results have been obtained from the focus group discussion methodology applied to active communication professionals in non-daily publications of the time (1975-1982). The discussion groups allow us to conclude that the training, often self-taught, of professionals influenced the deontological considerations that the indistinction between journalist and militant supposes, characteristic of the period of dictatorship and political change. As a consequence of this style of journalism, the non-daily press disputes the hegemony of the movement's media in the formation of public opinion. However, according to these testimonies, most of the non-daily editorial projects with political objectives did not survive the arrival of a professionalizing daily press after 1976, mainly carried out by professionals trained in schools of journalism and universities. ; publishersversion ; published

L'interdiction de la corrida, votée par le parlement autonome de Catalogne en 2010, a été à l'origine d'une grande controverse en Espagne. Cet article analyse la couverture de l'événement dans quatre journaux issus du centre et de la périphérie, dans le but de déterminer s'ils se sont emparés du débat pour conforter leur discours identitaire respectif, contribuant ainsi à l'escalade du conflit. L'approche de l'Analyse critique du Discours permettra de révéler comment les croyances idéologiques se (re)produisent dans les textes et comment les quotidiens participent à la construction des identités catalane et espagnole, à travers l'émission d'arguments favorables ou contraires aux spectacles taurins.

The ban on bullfighting, which was passed by the Parliament in Catalonia in 2010, raised much controversy in Spain. This research analyses the media coverage of the event, by four newspapers from the centre and periphery, and looks at whether they use the debate as a pretext for reaffirming their position with regard to identity and whether they contribute to the polarization of the conflict. A Critical Discourse Analysis approach is used in order to uncover how ideological beliefs are spread and how the newspapers help to establish Spanish and Catalan identity, setting out the arguments for and against bullfighting. ; L'interdiction de la corrida, votée par le parlement autonome de Catalogne en 2010, a été à l'origine d'une grande controverse en Espagne. Cet article analyse la couverture de l'événement dans quatre journaux issus du centre et de la périphérie, dans le but de déterminer s'ils se sont emparés du débat pour conforter leur discours identitaire respectif, contribuant ainsi à l'escalade du conflit. L'approche de l'Analyse critique du Discours permettra de révéler comment les croyances idéologiques se (re)produisent dans les textes et comment les quotidiens participent à la construction des identités catalane et espagnole, à travers l'émission d'arguments favorables ou contraires aux spectacles taurins.

Abstract
In this article we study the discursive construction of the EU managerial role in the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic in four Spanish newspapers: two
published in mainland Spain – El Mundo and El País – and two published in Catalonia – La
Vanguardia and ARA. By doing a qualitative study of newspapers, this article aims to identify which
discourse strategies are used when informing about the actions and decisions taken in European political and economic fora. The
analysis identifies the three main generic frames which are used in news pieces: morality (mostly as a call for solidarity),
economic (mostly as preventing possible harm), and conflict (focused on divide(s) within (EU)rope). The activation of these frames
in the news pieces contribute to an implicit legitimation of the existence of (EU)rope as based on two core values – solidarity
and cooperation – together with a delegitimation of the actions performed by some European institutions.

This article analyzes how the best-selling US weekly magazines Time and Newsweek represented the multiple episodes of violence which took place during the Spanish Transition perpetrated by both extreme right post-Francoist groups as well as terrorist organizations such as ETA or GRAPO. These elite political publications, often consulted by US foreign policymakers at the time, served to endorse the process of regime change that was underway in Spain. Through a study based on the qualitative analysis of editorial and main feature articles over a 162-week sample period (from October 1975 to December 1978) the article outlines the repercussion that such violence actions had in the media projection of late 1970s Spain within the United States' elite weekly press. ; El artículo explica cómo los semanarios norteamericanos Time y Newsweek representaron los diversos episodios de violencia durante la Transición política española tanto desde la extrema derecha como la ejercida por organizaciones terroristas como ETA y GRAPO. Estas revistas políticas internacionales de élite, tan seguidas por parte de los policy-makers de la época, sirvieron para avalar el proceso de cambio de régimen que se estaba produciendo en España a finales de los años 70. A través de un estudio inédito basado en el análisis cualitativo de contenido de editoriales y reportajes que comprenden 162 semanas de muestra -desde la hospitalización definitiva de Franco en octubre de 1975 hasta la Constitución de diciembre de 1978-, se analiza la proyección de este periodo convulso en la historia reciente de España tal y como fue plasmada en las páginas de las dos revistas de mayor tirada de los Estados Unidos.

This study describes the relations between the press and political power, during the Spanish transition to democracy in the late 1970s, focusing on discursive relations between political actors with power or challenging power and the media which interpreted their developments. It analyses how the main media, in the discourse of their news stories and editorials, framed events to construct a 'reality' for the public, aiding or impeding the construction of a democratic public sphere. The study is based on an analysis of journalistic discourse in ABC, La Vanguardia, El País (daily newspapers) and Triunfo (a weekly political magazine) in their coverage of key events in the period between the death of Franco (November 1975) and the approval of the Basque and Catalan statutes (November 1979).

Political events in Catalonia from 2010 to the present have marked part of the Spanish and EU media agenda and have resonated in the international media. We analysed German, French and UK media coverage and opinions of foreign correspondents regarding the Catalan independence movement for the period 2010 to 2017. We analysed press representations of the positions of the Spanish and Catalan governments and of the confrontation between them, focusing on the main newspapers (Le Figaro, Le Monde, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeustsche Zeitung, The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian) of the major EU economies of Germany, France and the UK. Analysis was intended to determine the degree of (il)legitimacy of the independence movement as well as arguments in favour of the Spanish status quo and even of European identity. We conducted a framing analysis of 563 press articles and an ethnographic study based on in-depth interviews with four foreign correspondents in Spain. The analysed newspapers provided wide coverage of the Catalan independence movement, framed the crisis as a conflict between the governments of Spain and Catalonia and called repeatedly on the EU to mediate.
