'Good' Outcomes – Handling Multiplicity in Government Communication This thesis examines how five Danish government organizations produce and assess communicative solutions in practice, and argues that government communication may be understood as a case of multiplicity. In the practices of producing and assessing communicative solutions it is uncertain what constitutes a 'good' outcome of government communication. This uncertainty is grasped by drawing upon analytical resources from the field of multiplicity-oriented ANT analyses. Empirically, the thesis is based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted at the five government organizations. Combining empirical observations, theoretical insights, and political programmes, four 'modes of ordering' are developed and these are utilized in exploring how the multiplicity of government communication unfurls and how it is handled in practice. The thesis shows how the ordering attempts described by the four modes of ordering coexist and interfere, and it suggests the notions of 'sequencing' and 'singularizing' for understanding how the multiplicity of government communication is handled in the production and assessment of communicative solutions. The study upon which the thesis reports has been carried out in connection with a larger Industrial PhD project, entitled Measurements you can learn from, that aimed at developing, testing, and implementing new and better communication measurements.

Nærværende notat giver et kortfattet overblik over den aktuelle status for EUs arbejde med den fremtidige transportpolitik, og i særlig grad tankerne omkring det fremtidige transeuro- pæiske transportnet (TEN-T). Tetraplan har gennem to omfattende projekter været involveret i at tilvejebringe baggrundsmateriale for såvel revisionen af den generelle transportpolitik (TRANSvisions), som udvikling af det fremtidige transeuropæiske transportnet (TENconnect). Notatet beskriver kort nogle af de konklusioner, der kan uddrages af de to projekter. Et af de nyskabende elementer i TENconnect var vort forslag om at udarbejde en infrastrukturplan for overordnede transeuropæiske net, der i højere grad end den nuværende fokus på enkelte korridorer kan fremme en integreret netværksplanlægning på Europæisk niveau. Vi udarbejdede derfor et forslag om et såkaldt europæisk Hovednet (Core Network), som kommissionen fremlagde til offentlig diskussion i Februar 2009. Flertallet af medlemsstater samt langt de fleste andre interessenter fandt ideen om et multi-modalt Hovednet rigtig. Kommissionen har derfor arbejdet videre med udvikling af et planlægningsgrundlag for Hovednettet, som nu omfatter en geografisk søjle bestående af fysiske netværk sammensat af vigtige knuder og strækninger, samt en "begrebsmæssig" søjle af supplerende tiltag af mere horisontal karakter. Udviklingen af Hovednettet forudsætter ud over den overordnede beskrivelse af indholdet, at der etableres nogle objektive kriterier, som kan anvendes til en udvælgelse af de knuder og strækninger, der bør indgå. Dette vil blive berørt i nærværende notat. Afslutningsvis nævnes mulighederne for at etablere makro-regionale Hovednet. I forbindelse med det aktuelle projekt Baltic Transport Outlook forsøger vi at fastlægge en metodologi for udvikling af et makro-regionalt Hovednet i Østersø-regionen.

As economic and budgetary scandals reached Danish front pages in 2014 over the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) held that year in Copenhagen, many bystanders questioned the sense of the event, proclaiming it a massive waste of public money. In this article, we introduce the concept of "potlatch" to explore the valuation and values of this event, seeing it as a "total social phenomenon" in which more than merely economic matters are at stake. Framing Eurovision as a cross-sectoral innovation project, we show how a wide array of actors from the public and private sector collaboratively sought to turn the event into "much more than a song contest." This "much more" is investigated by describing the partnering actors' arduous work to create value through different project logics. Where other valuations of the event put little work into bringing forth values which transgress the realm of the economic and quantifiable, we argue that a more caring engagement enacts non-economic event outcomes usually made invisible or, at best, perceived as "intangible."

Genome analysis of the pico-eukaryotic marine green alga Prasinoderma coloniale CCMP 1413 unveils the existence of a novel phylum within green plants (Viridiplantae), the Prasinodermophyta, which diverged before the split of Chlorophyta and Streptophyta. Structural features of the genome and gene family comparisons revealed an intermediate position of the P. coloniale genome (25.3 Mb) between the extremely compact, small genomes of picoplanktonic Mamiellophyceae (Chlorophyta) and the larger, more complex genomes of early-diverging streptophyte algae. Reconstruction of the minimal core genome of Viridiplantae allowed identification of an ancestral toolkit of transcription factors and flagellar proteins. Adaptations of P. coloniale to its deep-water, oligotrophic environment involved expansion of light-harvesting proteins, reduction of early light-induced proteins, evolution of a distinct type of C4 photosynthesis and carbon-concentrating mechanism, synthesis of the metal-complexing metabolite picolinic acid, and vitamin B1, B7 and B12 auxotrophy.
