Interview with Thomas R. Pickering: Preserving Centers of Sovereignty
In: Seton Hall Journal of Diplomacy and International Relations, Band 2, Heft 1, S. 31-37
Pickering first discusses the integration of Europe & how that might impact transatlantic relations. While the final form of EU is hard to determine, Pickering sees Europe as preserving centers of sovereignty as it integrates. Pickering then relates his experience explaining to the Chinese government what went wrong when NATO bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade. He addresses anti-Americanism as well as the US public sentiment that engagement abroad does not serve US national interests. He then remarks on foreign policy continuity across elections. J.
