The study of sport in the economy presents a rich arena for the application of sharply focused microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics to both team and individual outcomes. This unique book offers a survey of recent research that follows the tradition of empirical and theoretical analysis of sport economics and econometrics. Including contributions by many of the leading experts in the field, the authors address four central branches, namely: competitive balance, labour relations, attendance and demand, and the economic impact of sport in communities. A wide range of topics is explored within these themes, including: the effect of uncertainty of outcome on attendance, players' labour markets, wages and team performance, variations in fan loyalty between teams and through time, the determinants of soccer match attendance. Case studies of Major League Baseball, the National Football League (NFL) and college athletics in the US, the English Premier League, the Spanish football league and other (major and minor) European football leagues underpin the discussion. This important book will prove to be a fascinating and stimulating read for academics, researchers and students interested in the econometric analysis of sport

Including an array of distinguished contributors, this novel book fills a gap in the literature by addressing an important yet under researched issue in the field of sports economics. It places great emphasis on the notion that sport is a significant component for improving the happiness, health and well being of citizens, communities and society as a whole. In so doing, it addresses whether, in an environment of increasing pressure on public spending, governments should continue to subsidise sporting activities at the expense of other public resources. Written is a clear and accessible style

Introduction: Galicia is one of the Spanish territories showing larger migratory taxes. Building your own house, modern and functional, provided with much better habitat conditions than the traditional house has been one of the reasons that fuelled this past century the Galician migratory movements. Therefore, a migratory project usually comes together with an architectonic one.The house that has been built by migrated people enjoys characteristics different from other people's houses and from vernacular ones. All this stuff has shocked public and professional opinion. On this paper, we collect the outcomes of a research that analyses the emigrant's house creation process. We identify within that process the dimensions that are responsible of such an impact and we propose how to manage it.Method: Research strategy has been based on an all-country field survey, looking for case studies. This is the very first time –as far as we know- that this house has been studied from the architectonic point of view although it has been on the sociologist, anthropologist and economist researchers that have produced diverse outcomes. We sketch up many buildings and interviewed users. With all this stuff, we reproduced a model "at the laboratory" to analyse the circumstances behind the buildings. The area of study is Galicia; even though we know migrants that have already built characteristic houses all over the world. The area we studied shows a cultural, economic and social homogeneous shape. Results: We have been able to identify and understand the process of self-management used by Galician migrants to implement their homes. It was an unformal process, designed by migrated people on their own as it suited to them and allowed them to build a house when living among two different countries and to escape from a commercial mortgage, stuff they couldn't afford because of living away from their motherland. This has addressed us to understand why construction procedure delays for a very long time, even offering the idea that worksite has been left unfinished.Discussion or Conclusion: Once we identified the process followed to build this home, we look for the way it is understood by people out of the migratory world. As an outcome, we propose guidelines to be included on public policies to empower migrants when building a personal home by their own and to help public opinion on the management of the huge housing stock that was once built by migrants.

[ABSTRACT] Heritage Library maintains in the Incunabula collection the first edition of the comedies of Aristophanes. BH INC I-327. It is known as Aldine Edition and was published in 1498 by the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius following the Greek writing in this time. This edition is indispensable for subsequent printed editions, and it is also essential for any study of Aristophanes' work. The Aristophanes' comedy provides the key to understand the Fifth Century in the Ancient Greece, the political process that took place in the Athens of Pericles. There is as well, a critical review of the later editions by this classical author available at the Heritage Library.

; Xenophon and the other Socratics set out in 4th Century the recovery of client relationships based on the charis as an alternative to the critical situation of chattel slavery. In this way the problems of the Empire and those derived from democratic citizenship connected to the misthos are avoided. In the same line, with more systematic theoretical proposals, Aristotle develops the politeia as an organization that demarcates citizenship in accordance with the real situation of each person with respect to work and leisure compared to the democratic city's statutory system. Manual labour becomes a criterion with which to define the rights of citizenship. Aristotle perceives how the economic changes in his age favour the breaking up of the basis of the classical city. The same problems underlie the literary and intellectual expressions of the transition to Hellenism.

; Friendship (philia) in archaic Greece is a basic element in aristocracy's social relationships, as an instrument to consolidate social cohesion. In the formative period of youth, philia relationships between themselves and with respect to the pedagogues are imbued with éros, which gives way to formation of hetairía relationships as an instrument of reproduction through sympósion, where young people, still as paîdes, get into the groups of adults for the exercise of military life and policy, as hoplites and full citizens. As adults, in relations of friendship dominates military cooperation and political solidarity. These are the mechanisms of philía in the pólis between the archaism and democratic classicism, until the critical situation in the origins of Hellenism reduce it to the private sphere of ...
