After familiarizing readers with border thinking and making from antiquity to the present, Gabriel Popescu turns a critical eye on current concepts, processes, and contexts. Assessing the latest theoretical approaches to border studies, the author deftly incorporates a range of disciplinary perspectives, including geography, international relations, sociology, history, security studies, and anthropology. He explores recent world events, discussing how current issues such as migration, terrorism, global warming, pandemics, the international human rights regime, outsourcing, the economic crisis, supranational integration, regionalization, and digital technology relate to borders and influence our lives. Written with a clear eye and voice, this book makes a complex subject accessible to a wide readership.

The study aims to highlight the role of agricultural cooperatives as agents of rural development and their huge potential for socio-economic structures. The potential of cooperatives resulting from their ability to respond to the needs of economic, social, cultural and institutional outcomes in the rural development process, as well as their ability to provide mechanisms for organization, mobilization and management of material, financial and human resources. In addition, cooperatives, rural organizations and management as its own management, the ability to respond in a higher degree the needs of all members at the same time helping to increase confidence in the actions and mutual aspirations. However, European agricultural cooperatives function as business organizations, where there is capacity to act directly as agents of social and economic development. In the process of accumulation of goods, expanding the variety of services, to increase the rate of supply of performare management and increasing employment of labor unions are actively involved in the process of modernizing and improving activities in rural and / or agriculture. Through qualitative analysis of the common agricultural policy documents were highlighted: typology of agricultural cooperatives in the EU operation, cooperative models, the weaknesses of European agricultural cooperatives, the main shortcomings of European agricultural cooperatives, etc. It was concluded that in the EU, even if co-operative principles are the same, there is no uniform legal procedure regarding agricultural cooperative structures.

This book brings together emergent research and best practices in the area of agricultural management, policy, and structures, highlighting theoretical concepts and empirical research.

In the modern market economy, agri-food chains were imposed and strengthened due to unprecedented evolving recorded by supply and demand of food in recent decades, dynamic driven by market fragmentation, on the one hand, and specific processes of consumption and consumer emancipation, on the other hand. The objective of the paper aims to bring to the fore the best practices for support the Romanian small farmers to facilitate their access to the market, which is often dominated by large distribution networks. Reality has shown that financial support is not enough, even if farmers use modern and efficient technological systems, and that it is a need for an efficient integration of small producers in the agri-food sector. To highlight the best practices that can be used by Romanian small farmers were used information derived from: literature study on problems regarding the food sector; analysis of studies conducted by the consulting companies specialised in this field; analysing the consequences of recent legislation concerning the marketing of food products, namely its implementation in our country, especially in terms of small agricultural producers and their access to the Romanian market.

It was launched in 2011 at the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (Aix Marseille University), and has been co-produced by the Higher School of Art (Aix en Provence), PACTE laboratory (University of Grenoble-CNRS), Isabelle Arvers and La compagnie. Since then, it has gathered researchers (social and hard scientists), artists (web artists, tactical geographers, hackers, filmmakers, etc.) and professionals (customs, industry, military, etc.). The encounter of people coming from these different fields of knowledge and practice aims to create a radical shift of perspective in the way we apprehend both 21 st century borders and the boundaries separating fields of knowledge, art and practice.
